PURPOSE OF POSITION 

The Hecksher Partnership / Placement Specialist will help individuals on the path to life success, by providing assistance in identifying resources and support services within the community. You will develop employment, training and academic relationships between training programs, academic institutions, and community employers, providing access to an array of employment, job training, and educational opportunities. You will assist individuals through resume writing, the application process, interview preparedness, and support on the job or vocational/academic programs. The Hecksher Partnership / Placement Specialist promotes self-sufficiency and independence through various adaptability, communication and problem-solving skill building activities. Additional duties include vocational guidance, job development, job placement and employer education.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

(Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following) 

  • Develop and service employment, vocational and academic relationships between youth and community employers and vocational / academic schools and programs, providing access to an array of employment, job training, and educational opportunities. 
  • Assist individuals through resume writing, the application process, interview preparedness, and support academic and vocational placement. 
  • Organize tours of local colleges, universities, and other educational institutions as well as local career technical training and credentialing institutions. 
  • Develops at one new educational/training linkage per quarter that meets the needs and interest of CovWorks youth. 
  • The Hecksher Partnership / Placement Specialist promotes self-sufficiency and independence through various adaptability, communication and problem-solving skill building activities. 
  • Develop one new educational / training linkage and 5 employment placements a month. 
  • Duties as assigned.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Ability to establish liaisons and interact with employers, vocational training programs and educational institutions. 
  • Professional oral and written communication skills English, including academic report writing. 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders and youth. 
  • Must be able to travel to access employers, community organizations, training programs and educational institutions. 
  • Must be knowledgeable of multiple software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and the internet. 
  • Bi-lingual [English/Spanish] a plus.

  • Has insight into problems and the ability to develop workable alternatives.

  • Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements per policy. Provides proper notification for absences and tardiness. Takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences or tardiness. 
  • Observes all policies governing conduct while at work (e.g., telephone and computer use, electronic messaging, smoking regulations, breaks and other related policies). 
  • Ability to professionally communicate and relate well with all levels of personnel (colleagues, youth, and related professionals).

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT NOTICE: 

The Hecksher Partnership / Placement Specialist position is contractual based on specific funding. The current funding is set to end July 1, 2025. Covenant House NY cannot guarantee employment beyond the date (July 1,2025). In the event new and/or extended funding is received in alignment with the current role considered for continuation of employment will be contemplated.
