SALARY: $50,000 - $60,000 annually

Job Summary

The Partnerships & Communications Coordinator is a Development & Communications department member, including volunteer and internship management. This position will be in charge of administering all volunteer and internship initiatives, including liaising with Covenant House International around corporate volunteer events, ensuring child safety rules are followed in conjunction with CHNY’s Compliance and People & Culture departments.. This position will also work closely with our parent corporation, Covenant House International (CHI), on all development, communications, and volunteer-related matters. Lastly, the position will coordinate all CHNY’s external communications, including updating our website and social media accounts, to garner and build new partnerships.

This role will involve devising a social media plan and managing Covenant House New York’s social media channels.

Duties & Responsibilities

(Responsibilities to include, but not limited to, the following)

 

Volunteer & Internship Administration

  • Host corporate and community volunteer engagement opportunities, integrating multiple stakeholders into the activities, including staff, volunteers, and youth participants.
  • Develop activity plans and compile lists of related materials to ensure impactful volunteer opportunities for youth-facing and kit-packing events.
  • Work closely with the Communications & Development Associate to keep inventories of available supplies onsite for art events, holiday decorating, and other initiatives.
  • Act as the central point of contact for all volunteers and interns while closely collaborating with Covenant House New York’s People and Culture and Compliance teams to ensure all child safety and protection policies are adhered to.
  • Develop a talented pipeline of interns to support the organization, including cultivating new universities, colleges, and other recruitment partners.
  • Review and assess volunteer partnerships and proposals for new workshops or programs with the support of the Director of Strategic Partnerships and in collaboration with CHNY’s Youth Development team.
  • Partner with Covenant House New York Program staff and Covenant House International’s (CHI) Development teams to place volunteers, as appropriate, and liaise with Program staff leads for volunteer events.
  • Provide orientation and ongoing support to volunteers and interns.
  • Track active volunteer and intern activities and hours.
  • Provide in-kind donation administrative support as needed.

 

Development Liaison

  • Working closely with the AVP of Strategic Partnerships, supporting communications around CHI collaborative initiatives, and helping coordinate accordingly.
  • In coordination with CHI and with guidance from CHNY Program staff, work with the AVP of Strategic Partnerships to define annual seasonal plans and assess partnership opportunities. (Events include Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Mother’s Day, NYC Pride, Summer BBQs, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.)
  • Collect CHNY media assets and stories to share for CHI-related campaigns.
  • Collect in-kind needs from CHNY’s In-Kind Donations Specialist and create Amazon wishlists and other initiatives to fulfill those needs.
  • Spearhead Holiday Gift planning in conjunction with CHNY’s In-Kind Donations Specialist and CHI Development team.
  • Engage in other Development-related activities as needed.

 

External Communications

  • Working with the AVP of Strategic Partnerships, set forth and action a social media and communications plan to generate new external partnerships and deepen existing relationships.
  • Work with CHI’s website team to update the website, including adding photos and written content.
  • Coordinate with CHI and CHNY staff and respective photographers to gather photos of our youth and staff using responsible, trauma-informed practices for external communications.
  • Creatively design ways of showcasing partnership appreciation, including collecting quotes, graphics for promotional materials, and drafting notes of appreciation.
  • Draft and design a monthly newsletter and other external communications.
  • Draft copy and design graphics for one-pagers that showcase volunteer opportunities, in-kind donation needs, thank you notes, in-kind pitches, and one-pagers for other partner communications.
  • Research new external partnership opportunities in collaboration with the AVP of Strategic Partnerships and Development and Communications Associate.
  • Attend partnership calls with the Director of Strategic Partnerships support with the follow-through of related projects on an as-needed basis.

 

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 2+ years of experience in non-profit administration required (with preference given to Development, Communications and/or Volunteer experience).
  • Experience drafting and editing social media content for a nonprofit organization is preferred.
  • Experience using Canva is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills      

  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work diplomatically and effectively within a team to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Knowledge of communications software such as Canva, Sprout Social, and Mailchimp is preferred.
