Kitchen Helper

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Prepare and serve well-balanced and nutritious meals for clients/special events. Serve clients in a courteous, helpful, and prompt manner. The kitchen helper must maintain a clean kitchen facility, support in various areas including receiving and stocking all kitchen products

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following)

  • Prepare/serve food for Covenant House clients/special events.

  • Clean and sanitize dishes/kitchen utensils.

  • Clean floors, walls, and food preparation equipment.

  • Obtain products as needed by the cook.

  • Assist with stocking supply rooms.

  • Strictly follow sanitation, hygiene and food handling standards as per department of health and hygiene

 

Management and Leadership

  • Always upholds CHNYs mission, vision and principles, standards of conduct, policies and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned and needed.

 

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • This position does not supervise any other position.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma/GED and Certificate in Food Protection preferred.

  • One-year experience in the food services industry.

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Prior experience with cooking utensils and equipment preferred.

  • Detail oriented and strong communication skills

  • Ability to operate the following machinery: Dishwasher, Floor scrubber, cleaning tools

  • Ability to carry heavy loads of food products and kitchen equipment

  • Ability to professionally communicate and relate well with all levels of personnel (individuals, peers, customers and related professionals).

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • High concentration.

  • Frequent interruptions.

  • Moderate noise level.

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting (up to 20 lbs.).

  • Frequent sitting for periods of time at a computer workstation.
