General Statement:
The Summer Camp Coordinator supports the Fleet Mission Statement and Visitor Experience Philosophy by providing customer service and support for educational programming.
The role involves teaching Fleet Science Center's Youth Programs and contributing to curriculum development. Additionally, it entails collaborating with the Youth Engagement Manager to create and implement engaging STEM programs, such as offsite Summer Day Camps.
The Summer Camp Coordinator will handle administrative duties and assist in classrooms for Summer Camps at UC San Diego, San Diego City College and/or Fleet Science Center. This position will primarily operate offsite during Summer Camp and provide support for Summer Camp Operations at the Fleet Science Center.
Position Duration: April 21, 2025, to August 12, 2025
Summer Camp Dates: June 2, 2025, to August 8, 2025.
Spring Weekly Hours: 20-25 Hours
Summer Weekly Hours: 40 Hours
Reports to: Youth Engagement Manager
Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental and physical requirements of position:
Program Facilitation & Development
- Present hands-on workshops at the Fleet and offsite in the community.
- Teach and support Camp and other youth programs as needed.
- Cultivate an inclusive environment that encourages participation and exploration.
- Promote a safe, engaging learning environment for all audiences, and maintain creativity, high energy, and flexibility under pressure.
- Adhere to all emergency procedures in accordance with guidelines established by emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of all children.
Curriculum Development & Program Management
- Develop and adapt STEM curriculum for diverse age groups and learning preferences, while gathering feedback to assess program impact and identify areas for improvement.
- Assist in staff recruitment, including conducting interviews and references, while providing leadership, support, and training for ELOP Camp Educators and Science Communicators.
- Manage camp operations, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to budget, while coordinating materials and program space setup.
- Collaborate with the Youth Engagement Specialist to support Summer Camp and enhance Summer Camp experiences.
- Train and coordinate volunteers to support Day Camp program delivery.
Administrative Support
- Develop and maintain positive relationships and open communication with staff, parents, participants, community agencies, and serve as the primary contact for ELOP program participants, parents, and educators.
- Manage registration processes, maintain attendance for youth programs, contact lists, program evaluations and provide administrative support as needed.
