General Statement:  

The Fleet Science Center’s School Partnerships Manager supports the Fleet Mission Statement and Education Philosophy by strengthening and deepening our relationships with local school districts, aiming to become a vital educational resource for the community. This manager spends most of their time communicating with school district-level decision-makers through in-person visits, phone, email, and video calls to secure paid contracts for services. This position will also be responsible for collaborating with School Programs staff for the customization of off-site and on-site school education offerings. This position will also collaborate with other departments to achieve mission goals and objectives and foster collegial support and positive morale.

The selected candidate must be available to work evenings and weekends as required.

Reports to:  Director of Education & Community Partnerships

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of the position:

  1. Increase fee-based programmatic reach by:
    1. Researching and engaging appropriate district-level prospects (superintendent, principals, science curriculum coordinator, PTA) for decision-making regarding K-12 science programming in different districts, including public schools, charters, private schools, and adjacent serving institutions that serve the educational needs of schools.
    2. Building and maintaining meaningful, long-term relationships with school districts to create mutually beneficial partnerships, monitoring personnel changes that may affect the awarding of paid contracts.
    3. Developing strategies and soliciting decision-makers for sales or programs and paid contracts to provide support for students’ science learning, which may include in-school and after-school programs, field trips, workshops, camps, and teacher professional development.
  2. Manage budgets and sales goals, participating in creating contracts and grant proposals, and ensuring contractual compliance as needed.
  3. Act as the primary point of contact for decision-makers to ensure high-quality customer service and fulfillment.
  4. Work with the Director of Education & Community Partnerships to establish the annual district contract goals for which this position is responsible.
  5. Collaborate with internal stakeholders on relationships and strategies that may assist with school/district partnerships.
  6. Collaborate with School Programs staff for customization of off-site and on-site school education programs, as needed.
  7. Work with School Program and Marketing staff to present information and activities related to district and school communications and impact.
  8. Remain current on all science, math, and other related disciplines: Standards, Frameworks, knowledge of educational techniques, NGSS and hands-on science materials, etc. as well as trends in local districts.

lease note final applicants may be tested on their Microsoft Office computer skills and may be asked to demonstrate writing, proofreading and mathematical skills.

Tools and equipment used to perform this position: computer, telephone, outreach program equipment, classroom equipment.

Supervision, direction, or guidance provided for this position:  Performs duties with minimal supervision.  Supervision required to discuss non-routine questions or concerns.

Medium Work: Position involves sitting some of the time. Standing and walking are required. Position requires the ability to exert minimal force of up to 10 pounds occasionally and minimal force to carry, lift, push, and otherwise move objects frequently.

Qualifications

Basic Selection Factors:
To be considered qualified for the job, applicants should meet these basic selection factors:

  • Passionate about improving science education in K-12 schools
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience
  • Bilingual fluency is a plus
  • One to three years of experience in sales, business development, or client management
  • Proven networker with community partnership-building skills required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local education community
  • Goal-oriented - Proactive and strategic with a professional, positive, “can-do” demeanor
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-through required
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on public speaking and presentations
  • Ability to organize time effectively and manage a large number of tasks simultaneously 
  • Intermediate computer skills required (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaborate in a diverse team environment
  • Availability to work occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Proficient mathematical skills are required to perform budgeting and grant responsibilities
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and be able to provide proof of a valid California Driver's License
