Summary/Objective
Operate the Blue Bridge, located in a high traffic area of canal park, in a safe, effective and positive manner.

- Ability to adapt to changes, delays, or unexpected events.
- Ability to sit in enclosed space for hours at a time.

Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.)
- Uses control panel to perform Blue Bridge operations.
- Signal boats and pedestrians when bridge is being raised.
- Communicate with boat captains, as needed, via a VHF marine radio.
- Open and close safety gate any time the bridge is in operation.
- Positively represent Duluth when supplying information to pedestrians such as locations of attractions, restaurants and facilities.
- Be very familiar with events and times at the DECC, William A. Irvin, and Canal Park, maximize access for those patrons.
- Be knowledgeable about current events and entertainment happening in the Duluth area
- Keep the Blue Bridge Booth neat, tidy and clean.
- Respond promptly to customer requests for service or assistance, when appropriate.
- Follow safety and security procedures; Report potentially unsafe conditions to the police.
- Must be able to work alone for long periods of time.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Schedule
This position is part time, the Blue Bridge is open 7 days a week from May 1st to Early October. Depending on availability and hours of operation, this person could expect to work 5-28 hours per week for the season. Hours will vary from morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend.
Uniform
Professional attire for essential work functions and weather appropriate.
Work Environment
Work will take place in Blue Bridge Booth. The noise level is usually moderate, but may on occasionally be fairly loud. The temperature can range from very cold to very warm, there is shelter from the elements.
Physical Demands
This position must be able to walk, stand, and sit in an enclosed area for hours at a time.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s).
The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources.
At-Will Employment
This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time. Nothing in this job description or any other policy of the DECC shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way, the at will employment status of this position.
The at will employment status of an employee of the DECC may be modified only in a written employment agreement with that employee which is signed by the Executive Director or the Chair of the DECC Board of Directors.
