Hampden-Sydney College has an immediate opening for an Assistant Athletics Custodian. Reporting to the Executive Assistant for the Director of Athletics and the Head Athletics Custodian, the Assistant Athletics Custodian supports the mission of the College by ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall appearance of the assigned facilities. The Athletics Custodian performs a variety of cleaning and janitorial duties and assists in maintaining a safe and functional environment for employees, students, and visitors. The Athletics Custodian works collaboratively with other members of the Athletics and Facilities Management teams to uphold the College’s standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Duties
Performs routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces to maintain a clean and sanitary environment. Maintains the appearance of floors by cleaning, buffing, waxing, and using appropriate cleaning agents to ensure a safe and attractive surface. Cleans and polishes windows, mirrors, glass surfaces, and other fixtures to maintain a polished and presentable appearance. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms daily, replenishes supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, and ensures that restroom facilities are well-maintained and odor-free. Collects and disposes of trash and recyclables, ensuring proper sorting and disposal procedures are followed. Regularly inspects and maintains cleaning equipment, reports any malfunctions or need for repairs, and ensures proper storage of equipment. Assist in setting up rooms for meetings, events, and activities, including arranging furniture and ensuring necessary supplies are available. Keeps pathways, stairways, and entrances clear of hazards, reports any safety concerns or incidents, and contributes to maintaining a safe environment.
Maintains and cleans locker rooms in Kirk for athletic teams. Washes uniforms for sports teams in Kirk – football, baseball, lacrosse, and soccer. This includes practice, game, and work out uniforms. Fold and return uniforms to appropriate location.
Assists in painting athletic fields (including Rugby) as required for practices and games. Maintains paint equipment.
Supports special events with setup of game fields and cleanup of fields after events to include removal of equipment, trash and debris.
On game day, assists teams and coaches as needed to take equipment to and from the fields.
Maintain area around Kirk in neat and tidy manner to include blowing sidewalks.
Assists in mowing of athletic fields with mowing, weed-eating edging and other tasks as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
