Description

The Head Athletic Coach is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Establishment of Program Philosophy - The head coach is responsible for the establishment of a program philosophy (philosophy, skills, techniques..) that will be shared with all levels of the program as well as students and families. All athletic department philosophies including those of effort, teamwork and sportsmanship should also be shared with our coaches, student athletes and parent communities.
  • Scheduling - The head coach will be responsible for establishing all non league matches, tournaments or games for the varsity, JV and freshman levels. All schedules must be approved and reviewed by the athletic director. The head coach is also responsible for coordinating with the athletic director on practice schedules for all levels. (included in this scheduling would be an alumni contest)
  • Attendance - The head coach is responsible for attending all required school, league and section meetings and being properly prepared for such meetings.
  • Equipment - The head coach is responsible for all equipment and uniform needs of the program. All equipment orders will be made in consultation with the equipment manager.
  • Summer Advanced Camp - The head coach will be responsible for planning, organizing and running a Saint Francis summer advanced camp in consultation with the camp director.
  • Coaching Candidates - The head coach is responsible for assisting the athletic director in finding and interviewing potential coaching candidates in his/her sport.
  • Summer Program - The head coach is responsible for coordinating a summer program in his/her sport in consultation with the athletic director.
  • Pre-Season Program - The head coach will be responsible for coordinating a pre-season conditioning/lifting program in conjunction with WCAL bylaws.
  • Knowledge - The head coach is responsible for maintaining a knowledge of all sport, school, league, section and state rules and bylaws.
  • Practice - The head coach is responsible for preparing for daily practice with a written practice plan. The head coach is also responsible to attend daily practice and coach our student athletes in proper and correct techniques.
  • Supervision - The head coach is responsible for coordinating supervision of student athletes before, during and after workouts.
  • Paperwork - The head coach is responsible for coordinating team forms for all student athletes in the program. He/she will be responsible for verifying physical forms before tryouts and all necessary forms once season starts (emergency form, HIPPA form, steroid form, transportation form, etc..) The head coach is also responsible for verifying paperwork clearance on all transfer students. Finally, the head coach is responsible for completing all school, league, and section paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Professional Development - The head coach is responsible for continually updating oneself and staff in the areas of professional development.
  • Meetings - The head coach is responsible for planning pre-season meetings with his coaching staff to discuss philosophy, expectations, teaching technique, the upcoming year, and any other issues that they see as relevant. The head coach is also responsible for planning and putting on a pre-season parent/student meeting and an end of the year potluck celebration.
  • Support of School Mission - The head coach is responsible for supporting the academic, spiritual and social mission of the school. It is expected that the head coach keeps abreast of students academic performances. Finally, it is expected that the head coach support the spiritual mission of the school by coordinating a program mass, prayer before athletic contests and a varsity service project.
  • Support Staff - The head coach is responsible for coordinating the support staff for the program. (team managers, statisticians, film crew, etc..)
  • Budget - The head coach is responsible for coordinating with the athletic director on all budget concerns. It is also the head coaches responsibility to make sure the program acts in compliance with the stated budget.
  • Promotion of Program - The head coach is responsible for coordinating marketing and promotion of the program along with the athletic director.
  • Evaluation - The head coach will be responsible for coordinating a review and evaluation of all staff members with the athletic director.
  • Scouting - The head coach is responsible for scouting of all future opponents.
  • College Process - The head coach is responsible for working with student athletes and families in regards to the college recruitment process.
  • Certifications - The head coach will be responsible for completion of all coaches certifications including the state CIF class as well as current First Aid and CPR classes.
  • Transportation - The head coach will be responsible for coordinating with the athletic director on all transportation requests. (some sports also require off campus facility and transportation issues).
  • Tryouts - The head coach will be responsible for administering a tryout period for their sport. The tryout period must last at least 5 practices and students must be given a list of items that they will be evaluated on during this tryout period.

Game Day Responsibilities - The head coach is responsible for coordinating all game day responsibilities for their program.

Qualifications

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience coaching at the high school or college level. Candidates should have experience working, playing or coaching in a values-based educational program.
