Position Summary

North Greenville University's Theatre Department seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Theatre to teach courses in Costume Design, Costume Construction, Engaging the Arts through Theatre, Theatrical Makeup. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to design and construct costumes for academic performances, supervise and maintain costume shop and inventory, oversee practicum and work study students, and advise theatre majors. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. North Greenville University is a teaching university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach classes as assigned
  • Design and/or oversee design of costumes, hair, and makeup for shows
  • Maintain costume shop
  • Maintain wig and make-up inventory
  • General faculty responsibilities including committee assignments

 

Physical Requirements

  • Hearing:  Hear well enough to teach classes, interact with students, etc.
  • Dexterity: Ability to sew, apply makeup, etc.
  • Mobility:  Teach classes, pull costumes, move between departments, and attend meetings across campus, etc.
  • Talking:  Teaching classes, mentor students, etc.
  • Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think, concentrate, etc.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This position is a full-time, nine-month position in the School of the Arts. This faculty member first reports to the Associate Dean who reports to the Dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in theatrical design
  • Preference will be given to applicants holding a terminal degree
  • Professional theatrical costume and make-up design experience
  • Experience and a passion for teaching
  • Experience other areas of theatre
  • Evidence of scholarly potential
  • The willingness and ability to mentor students
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
