Description

The City of Wentzville is seeking a dynamic and strategic thinker to join our team as a Strategic Administrative Analyst. In this vital role, you will serve as a key advisor within the Administration Department, leading impactful cross-departmental initiatives that shape citywide policies and operations.

Position Overview:
As the Strategic Administrative Analyst, you will be responsible for conducting complex organizational and operational analyses to inform strategic decision-making. You will work closely with leadership and departments across the City to identify improvement opportunities, develop innovative solutions, and ensure the effective implementation of strategic initiatives.

Essential Job Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive research for special projects by designing and executing studies, surveys, and audits; prepare clear, well-organized reports with actionable insights to support leadership decision-making.
  • Analyze departmental and citywide data to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for operational improvement and innovation.
  • Develop and track metrics and dashboards to measure progress on strategic goals and provide data insights that inform policy and resource decisions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing policies, programs, and procedures using quantitative and qualitative data, and recommend improvements based on analytical findings.
  • Meet deadlines by delivering timely and in-depth analyses of policy and procedural issues, including evaluations of proposed changes.
  • Assess operational challenges and develop recommendations for improvements in organizational policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and update on state and federal legislative activities, providing insights to support City decision-making.
  • Track and report progress on Board-initiated directives, and assist with planning and coordinating strategic goal-setting sessions.
  • Investigate and resolve complex community inquiries and escalated concerns by gathering and analyzing relevant information, and referring issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Draft sophisticated correspondence, ordinances, resolutions, and proclamations as needed.
  • Collaborate regularly with City staff to enhance interdepartmental communication and operational efficiency.
  • Organize and manage cross-departmental projects to ensure timely completion and alignment with City priorities.
  • Provide administrative support to the Administration Team by facilitating internal processes, managing communications, and assisting with daily operations.
  • Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and expenditure tracking.
  • Facilitate local and regional engagement initiatives, such as the annual Legislative Showcase, to promote stakeholder participation.
  • Provide respectful, professional, and positive service in all interactions between co-workers, internal and external customers, community members, and the public.
  • Maintain a positive and productive environment ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the City, Department and Division.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration is required.
    • Master’s degree preferred
  • Two years of relevant municipal experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • Expertise in the use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and project management software.
  • Working knowledge of City software systems, with a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Strong data gathering, analysis, and statistical reporting skills.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive research and produce clear, concise reports.
  • Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective project coordination skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing and in person.
  • Ability to use good judgment and think rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
  • Ability to apply advanced thinking to complete work, and to work independently with little supervision.
