Description

JOB SUMMARY:     Process donated textiles/clothing, housewares, books, toys, decorator and other donated items for sale, through a sequential process involving sorting, grading, cleaning, pricing, invoicing and packaging.  Depending on location, may greet donors and accept donations within the store.

 

                                             ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

Following established guidelines and criteria, all or some of the following sequence of steps will be performed:

 

Sort and grade textile/clothing and hard-sort items by separating them into predetermined classifications (e.g., men’s, women’s, children’s, and other textiles) and quality levels (retail store grade, Outlet grade, or salvage).

 

Clean and grade hard sort items by removing surface dirt from glassware and small wares and placing incomplete and/or broken items into containers for the Outlet or trash.

 

Price items meet quality standards by grouping items according to value.

 

Tag items meeting quality standards by affixing appropriate tags or labels to a group of priced items.

 

Place items into designated containers for transport to store sales floor.

 

                                                      SECONDARY DUTIES

 

May perform Donor services such as taking donations, documenting donation information and communicating with Donors.

 

Will perform duties related to daily sanitizing of store and donation locations.

May perform minor janitorial duties as required/assigned.

Store Processors may need to perform related duties not listed in this job description.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED:                       High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: None.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:                     None.  All sequences of the job can be learned through on-the-job training.

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:                     Basic math ability.

 

                                Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast’s mission and general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on the job).

 

                                Familiarity with computers (this may be learned on the job).

 

EQUIPMENT USED:                                Typical processing equipment; typical office equipment.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:

 

The job involves some emotional effort. The work is routine with recurring deadlines and occasional periods of high activity/demand requiring little or no overtime to complete the work.

 

                                                                    

JOB SETTING

 

Work is performed in large enclosed warehouse area on an even concrete floor surface.  The area is heated and has some natural ventilation.  The temperature will fluctuate to some degree depending on location within the department.

 

Dust and dirt is controlled by daily cleaning of the work area.  Some of the materials handled may be soiled; these are disposed of following established procedures.

 

Work is completed independently but in cooperation with whole department. There is occasional public contact. 

 

The noise volume is moderately high throughout the day depending on the amount of activity, equipment in operation and radio operation.

 

Material handling equipment (forklift, hand truck, movable containers/racks) and trucks may be operated in or near work area.

                                                                    

                                          PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

The job requires regular lifting and/or carrying up to 25 lbs.  Heavier items (26 lbs. or more) will be lifted/carried either with assistance from another person or by using appropriate material handling equipment.

 

Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
