The IT Systems Engineer works closely with the Systems Engineering Manager to ensure seamless operation and optimization of our organization’s IT infrastructure. This role involves designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting systems, particularly focusing on network, Server, Azure Cloud, Office 365, SharePoint Online, and telecommunications systems, encompassing voice, data, and video. The Systems Engineer also plays a crucial role in coordinating IT projects and resources within the department.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure system capacity meets current and future needs.
- Establish and adhere to policies, procedures, diagrams, and training plans for systems administration, standard operations, disaster recovery, and project management.
- Collaborate with supervisors to shape IT strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Research and recommend products, services, protocols, and standards to support systems procurement and development.
- Ensure compliance with and exceed service level agreements with business units.
Operational Duties
- Perform tasks assigned by the Systems Engineering Manager, including evaluating, designing, implementing, documenting, monitoring, maintaining, upgrading, and troubleshooting IT systems such as LANs, WANs, Internet, Intranet, and security systems, Windows Server 2012/2022, Windows 10/11, Microsoft SQL Server, and other IT related Systems/Applications.
- Enforce and follow enterprise-wide security policies as established by the IT security committee.
- Manage cloud infrastructure, particularly Microsoft Azure, including virtual machines, cloud storage, and other Azure services.
- Manage Office 365 infrastructure including but not limited to Sharepoint Online, Exchange, OneDrive, Office, and Teams.
- Analyze system logs to identify and address potential issues within enterprise systems.
- Implement and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell or Python for various system tasks, including deployments and monitoring.
- Manage file systems and storage, including retention policies and access rights.
- Install, configure, and administer enterprise-level software applications.
- Lead implementation, service, and support teams.
- Provide training and mentorship to engineering staff as needed.
- Conduct feasibility studies and implement various projects, improvements, and conversions.
- Maintain hardware and software standards in collaboration with owners and stakeholders.
- Proactively monitor application systems and network performance, providing detailed performance reports and implementing strategies for optimization.
- Manage backup and disaster recovery processes, ensuring data integrity and business continuity.
- Test redundancy, disaster recovery, and IT security measures to ensure business continuity.
- Manage external vendors to resolve performance issues or delays.
- Facilitate inter- and intra-departmental training on programs and applications.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, processes, and procedures, contributing to the organization's knowledge base.
