Come join our team as a Pension Accountant at the United Association National Pension Fund (UANPF), where you will focus on providing excellent service to our retired pensioners, demonstrating outstanding customer service, and performing accounting duties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards.

The United Association National Pension Fund (UANPF) is a multi-employer defined benefit pension fund established over 55 years ago. We administer retirement benefits nationwide for over 160,000 hardworking members of the United Association and their families.

Position Overview:
As a Staff I Accountant, you will carry out a variety of intricate clerical, data entry, and accounting tasks, all in accordance with GAAP standards and Fund policies. Your responsibilities will include maintaining Pension Accounting records and preparing financial, statistical, and technical reports. Most importantly, in your role as a Pension Accountant, you will build meaningful relationships with our Pensioners and Beneficiaries, becoming their trusted liaison for their pension accounting needs. Collaboration and teamwork with colleagues are essential aspects of this role.

  • Tax Filing Compliance: Possess a thorough understanding of federal and state tax laws and requirements, particularly regarding the preparation and filing of IRS Forms 1099-R, 1099-MISC, 1099-INT, 940, 945, and other relevant forms.
  • Proficient in MS Office: Demonstrate intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word to effectively manage data, create reports, and document processes.
  • Banking and Industry Software: Understand and apply knowledge of banking processes as they relate to industry-standard software, ensuring smooth and accurate financial transactions.
  • Process Improvement: Actively seek out and implement innovative solutions to improve processes and increase productivity within the department.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Proactively identify key areas of concern, analyze potential issues, and provide effective solutions to mitigate risks and enhance operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Workflow Management: Ensure that all forms and returned mail placed in the candidate’s workflow are entered and processed in a timely manner.
  • Accounts Payable: Maintain and respond to accounts payable emails, ensure entries are recorded in the correct period, cut checks upon payment approval, and organize payable support documentation in the record-keeping system.
  • Bank Activity Management: Download daily bank activity, format the data, and upload the activity into a batch linking system.
  • Data Entry: Enter data into Service XG from various sources, including W4-P and VA-P tax forms, pre-code files, death notifications from the United Association and Pension Benefit Inc., and updates from local Health & Welfare premiums to be collected from pensioners/beneficiaries and paid directly to the Health & Welfare Funds.
  • Direct Deposit Processing: Handle incoming Direct Deposit forms, review all Direct Deposit batch letters produced nightly, and make necessary changes before management review.
  • Pre-Note File Creation: Create a weekly Pre-Note file for newly added direct deposit information and send it to Truist Bank for verification.
  • Income Verification: Maintain and review random income verification letters, and prepare verification of income letters for members.
  • Batch Letter Review: Review batch letters for scheduled terminating benefits (“Expires”) for accuracy and forward them for mailing.
  • Long-Term Suspended Pensioners: Conduct internet searches for long-term suspended pensioners/beneficiaries and create follow-up letters as needed.
  • Returned 1099R Forms: Process returned 1099R forms, make copies for member records, and review the member’s file for current status (active, inactive, or deceased).
  • Special Death List Reports: Analyze and perform tasks to resolve issues related to entries on Special Death List Reports.
  • Pension Expense Entries: Assist in preparing general journal entries for pension expenses.
  • Returned Mail Processing: Process returned mail items from pensioners/beneficiaries, ensuring accurate updates in the system.
  • Document Preparation: Review and prepare accounting-related documents for electronic filing.
  • Schedule C Letters: Prepare Schedule C letters for trustees, employees, investment managers, and vendors.
  • Procedure Documentation: Contribute written content to the creation and maintenance of Accounting Procedures.
  • Confidentiality and Security: Maintain the strictest confidentiality regarding all materials and ensure the security of National Pension Fund checks, financial records, and payroll information.

 

 

SALARY: Level IV (Range: $62,244.00 - $70,876.00)

HOURS: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (37.5‐hour work week)

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: College graduate with a minimum of an Associate’s degree in Accounting, or five (5) years of related accounting experience.
  • Accounting Software Proficiency: Basic knowledge and experience in using accounting software.
  • Attention to Detail: Highly detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on accuracy, well-organized, and flexible, with the ability to meet concurrent deadlines.

  • Tax Filing Familiarity: Familiarity with tax filing requirements and related IRS forms.
  • Microsoft Office Skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
