Job Statement/Summary
The Head Coach is responsible for managing all aspects of his/her team. The Head Coach is responsible for the organization/implementation of practices and
games as well as the recruitment of players each season in accordance with NAIA rules and regulations. Head Coaches must make prospective
student-athletes aware of all polices and procedures in the University Regulations and the Athletic Handbook.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Instruct student-athletes in all aspects of the designated sport
  • Responsible for all aspects of research, content and preparation of academic teaching methodology relative to the specific sport
  • Responsible for teaching and demonstrating to student-athletes the comprehensive safety methods, standards and policies for the University
  • Monitored teaching and/or training of the most effective skills associated with athletic competition\
  • Educate and establish adherence guidelines associated with NAIA Mid-South conference rules
  • Coordination, planning and development of the specific sports program
  • Leading and monitoring both training and practice sessions
  • Advise each student-athlete in reaching academic success and graduating in a timely manner
  • Consistently maintain and encourage open lines of communication with the Athletic Director regarding matters related to the program
  • Consistently communicate with the Faculty Athletic Representative and Athletic Director regarding all eligibility and scholarship offers
  • Evaluate, mentor and support assistant coaches
  • Monitor and ensure that injured players receive appropriate care
  • Schedule games and practices seeking to minimize scheduling conflicts as much as practicable and to maximize fan participation to the extent possible
  • Attend all practices, prepared with a clear and organized practice plan
  • Attend all coaches meetings well prepared in order to address any issues which have arisen
  • Manage game day operations
  • Responsible for the team transport to away contests, either by driving or arranging for a driver
  • Manage the team budget
  • Manage team fundraising efforts
  • Manage all recruiting, practice and travel forms
  • Handle all aspects of camps and clinics offered
  • Maintain and preserve the Athletic Department’s regulations
  • Adhere to and promote the University and the Athletic Department mission, philosophy and objectives
  • General maintenance to the fields, weight rooms and gyms, which may require lifting or moving of equipment weighing 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


Skills, Abilities, Knowledge
This is a twelve month position reporting to the Athletic Director. The Head Coach must have a strong commitment to athletics and exceptional independent
judgment, problem solving and planning skills, with the ability to effectively motivate student-athletes. The Head Coach must possess the knowledge to
teach the sport and the ability to recruit.

 

Education
Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred

 

Related Work Experience
1-3 years of college coaching experience preferred

 

Working Conditions
Head Coaches are generally in high-profile positions with work often conducted in a high-paced, sometimes very stressful environment.
