Job Statement/Summary
This position supports the Sports Information Director with various professional tasks related to the planning, organization, operations, and management of marketing, promotion, and media relations for the athletics department. Will serve as the primary contact for assigned sports.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position
- Under the general supervision of the Sports Information Director, the Assistant Sports Information Director will help plan, organize, coordinate, and manage media relations and sports information programs for athletics, including but not limited to:
- Assisting with the coordination and reporting of player, team, and game statistics and results.
- Supporting the cultivation of positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of print, electronic, and social media initiatives to enhance the brand of athletics and each sports program.
- Assisting with successful marketing and promotional programs aimed at engaging businesses and the general public.
- Participating in athletic fundraising activities and corporate sponsorship efforts.
- Helping manage internship programs and work-study students in sports information and media relations.
- Providing occasional instruction in sports information and media relations practices as directed.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Sports Information Director.
- Assisting with game day operations, including managing press box staff.
- Assisting with updates and maintenance of the athletics webpage.
- Assisting with broadcast duties for assigned sports: live stream, radio coverage, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience in sports information, media relations, communications, athletics administration, marketing, broadcasting and/or promotions, preferably at the collegiate level.
- College football experience highly recommended.
