Director of Athletic Bands - Position Summary

The Director of Athletic Bands provides leadership and organization for all phases of the operation of the CU Marching Band program. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, recruiting of prospective students, planning, and providing instruction and assessment at team rehearsals in preparation for performance at athletic competition and campus events, budget maintenance, equipment procurement, schedule and travel and engaging with students to aid in their academic success, retention and eventual graduation from the University.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 0-3 year of experience in Marching Band
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to recruit Marching Band members and retain Marching Band members (Meet Recruiting Goals)
  • Teach music to a variety of students
  • Manage Assistant Marching Band Director and Graduate Assistant
  • Manage Roster and Scholarship Budget

 

Work Environment

This position will require evening and weekend work, especially during football and basketball seasons.

 

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands and fingers as well as talk or hear routinely throughout the workday. Employees must be able to climb, kneel, balance, stoop, crouch, carry and regularly as part of the job lift up to 25 pounds.

 

Supervisor

The Marching Band Director reports to the Vice President for Athletics
