Required Technical Skills, Experience, Education, and Credentials:
- Bachelor's Degree is required in the field of Nursing
- Current WI Nursing License, without limitations that are incompatible with duties, responsibilities, supervision or practice setting.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience working with adults with severe and frequent mental illness.
- Travel is not required for this position
- Knowledge of mental illness, substance use disorders, psychopharmacology and evidenced based practices specific to needs of the clients.
- Awareness of personal, cultural, educational, and environmental aspects of community living for individuals living with a mental illness or substance use disorder.
- Knowledge of biological, psychological and social problems and appropriate therapeutic interventions.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications and side effects.
- Knowledge of community health, social service and advocacy resources available within the community.
- Certified or eligible for certification in CPR/First Aid.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Professional workplace appearance and conduct; friendliness and courtesy to clients, coworkers and vendors.
- Effectively communicates and develops good working relationships with co-workers.
- Reliability in reporting to work regularly and on time
- Experience with adults undergoing a psychiatric crisis.
- Knowledge of community resources available to consumers in the Milwaukee County area.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee may experience or must do to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, by computer and in person.
- Ability to perform well in a fast paced work environment.
- On occasion must be able to push/pull/lift/move objects weighting at least 50 pounds.
- Must be able to continuously perform simple/difficult manipulative tasks.
- Must have the ability to climb at least two flights of stairs.
- Work is performed largely at the Crisis Resource Center, an office environment or other various settings.
- Employee is expected to contribute to a 24 hour/7day per week crisis response staffing capability.
- This position requires participation in reoccurring ‘on-call’ duties and flexibility in daily work schedule to adequately meet program needs, which may include evenings or weekends.
- Possible exposure to blood and body fluids with some exposure to filth, animals (pets), hazardous materials and infectious diseases.
- The crisis setting in which this position works regularly utilizes office equipment including printers and personal computers for various tasks.
