Description

Applications are being accepted for a full-time Aquarist. This position is responsible for daily husbandry, water quality, and maintenance duties for all species located in the Aquarium, including Indo-Pacific reef species, black-tip reef shark, zebra shark, wobbegong shark, lion fish, moon jellyfish, cownose rays, southern stingrays, and corals. The Aquarist may also assist with other species located in the Aquatics section including North American river otters, African black-footed penguins, American alligators, California sea lions, and harbor seals.

Responsibilities: The Aquarist performs work necessary to provide basic daily animal care for the zoo's aquarium animals, ensures appropriate animal wellbeing, and performs husbandry practices such as life support and water quality maintenance, operant conditioning, enrichment strategy, and assisting with husbandry and enclosure furnishing and life support design. Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree in an animal-related field, one year of experience in an aquarium or zoological setting, and PADI/NAUI SCUBA open water or higher certification are preferred. High school diploma or GED is required.
