Summary 

Reporting to the Sr. Development Director, the Strategic Giving Manager is responsible for expanding Human Options’ privately generated revenue opportunities by implementing effective donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies, with an emphasis on managing a portfolio of major gift donors through the moves management process. 

 

 

This position will meet fundraising goals by promoting deeper stakeholder engagement, such as building collaborative relationships, managing special campaigns, and developing a major gifts program. This includes executing and managing cultivation and stewardship strategies in support of fundraising campaigns, gift planning and major gift procurement, donor relations, and annual giving. 

 

 

The Major Gifts Manager must be able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines. In addition, the Strategic Giving Manager must have the ability to thrive in an environment that requires significant self-initiative, anticipation of project needs, and management of multiple projects at once. The Strategic Giving Manager collaborates internally with staff across departments, including Fund Development, Finance, and our Program teams, in addition to representing Human Options externally to key stakeholders. 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Donor Cultivation & Stewardship 

  • Oversee a world-class major gifts program to ensure consistent growth of Human Options' privately generated revenue. Collaborate with the Sr. Director to develop and implement this program. 

  • Manage a portfolio of major gift donors utilizing the moves management system to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors. 

  • Grow portfolio revenue by identifying and cultivating new prospects, as well as upgrading gifts and deepening engagement with current portfolio donors. 

  • Identify lapsed and potentially lapsing donors to implement win-back strategies. 

  • Recruit and steward individual donors by building year-round engagement opportunities to maximize revenue and build donor loyalty. 

 

Collaboration & Strategy 

  • Support the Sr. Director in the ongoing development of a case for support. 

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to understand greatest needs, organizational strengths, and key opportunities. 

  • Develop materials, such as case statements, major gift proposals, presentations, and impact reports, that communicate case for support to key stakeholders. 

  • Develop the necessary systems, processes, and tools to elevate a culture of philanthropy across Human Options and ensure an integrated fundraising strategy. 

  • Support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Sr. Director on their major gifts' strategy. 

  • Use exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills to build effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including staff, donors, board members, volunteers, media, local and virtual communities. 

 

Fundraising Campaign Management 

  • Work with the Sr. Development Director to develop unique giving opportunities in the context of current campaigns, and to identify help create any needed collateral. 

  • Support special fundraising initiatives, including capital campaigns, multi-year gifts, planned giving, etc., by engaging donors under management and soliciting. Identify and cultivate new prospects in support of the campaigns. 

  • Upgrade identified percentage of donors from events attendance to annual giving. 

 

Budget & Reporting 

  • In partnership with Sr. Development Director, oversee budget development and monitoring for all major gifts fundraising activities, as well as produce internal and external reports regarding projected and achieved goals. 

  • Working with the Sr. Development Director, establish annual and monthly revenue major gifts and special campaign goals. Identify, create, and implement cultivation and volunteer opportunities, visits, and tours to increase involvement for current and prospective donors. 

  • Ensure information related to fundraising strategies and activities, as well as other appropriate information related to donors/potential donors, are entered into the organization’s Donor Database system. 

  • Collaborate with the Development Operations Coordinator to implement prospect management strategies utilizing Razer’s Edge. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required or commensurate work experience required.   

  • A minimum of 5 years of success in fund development or related industry. 

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM, such as Raiser’s Edge. 

  • Knowledge of Orange County community. 

  • Experience in volunteer, intern, and support staff management. 

  • Excellent public relations skills and written and verbal communication abilities, including extensive public presentation experience. 

  • A big picture orientation with the demonstrated ability to produce detail oriented and highly accurate work. 

  • Complete the 40-hour Domestic Violence Advocate certification training post-hire.
