Summary

Under the supervision of the Residential Clinical Program Supervisor, the Children’s Advocate will provide one on one interactions with children and parents, as well as group facilitation for children and adolescents. The Children’s Advocate requires use of various evidence-based curriculums and psychoeducational materials related to domestic violence. The Children’s Advocate acts as an ambassador for Human Options and provides presentations, training, and program updates related to domestic violence and children.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate children’s groups and childcare.
  • Implement children and adolescent curriculums such as Incredible Years, Safe Dates, and A Window Between World.
  • Integrate social and emotional education about decision making, feelings and self-esteem.
  • Integrate physical relaxation and self-calming techniques as appropriate into the curriculum.
  • Provide oversight of the children’s group process and utilize a structured and positive approach.
  • Provide on-going support to parents and provides parents with feedback on child’s interaction in group process.
  • Create an environment that is safe, consistent, and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of youth.
  • Identify appropriate resources for a child’s individual needs in order to provide parents with feedback and coaching on child’s interaction in group process, behavior management techniques, and trauma-informed parenting techniques.
    • Assist parents in enrolling children in local school district.
    • If needed, drive to district offices or schools to retrieve educational items for clients due to safety concerns.
    • Models on-going client and staff support, especially in crises, with a child’s behavior. Identify appropriate resources and facilitate communication between referral and client.
    • Assist in facilitating groups, such as PEP Parenting group, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, a related field, or commensurate work experience required.
  • One (1) year of experience working with children in a group setting.
  • One (1) year of experience with domestic violence program preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Preschool Special Education Credential or Early Childhood Education Credential preferred.
