Job Summary:

WHRO Public Media is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of our organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with industry regulations, and supporting all financial processes. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, experience with nonprofit or media accounting, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory guidelines.
  • Process and maintain accounts receivable:
    • Set up and maintain new accounts receivable clients.
    • Analyze past due accounts and work with the appropriate representative for collection
    • Prepare invoices for all services as needed.
    • Run aging reports for management regularly.
  • Input, monitor and reconcile revenue from underwriting, grants, membership donations, and sponsorships.
  • Process and record daily cash receipts.
  • Assist with employee expense reimbursements.
  • Generate tower leasing and revenue share invoices.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Collaborate with all departments on financial matters.
  • Support audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Assist in grant accounting, ensuring proper tracking and reporting of funds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of accounting software platforms, Sage Intacct a plus.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Experience with grant tracking and compliance is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-department collaboration.
  • Passionate about WHRO Public Media.

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, related field or the equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate would have five years of experience in accounting.
