San Diego Humane Society is hiring a Full-Time Volunteer Engagement Supervisor for our Volunteer Engagement team at our San Diego Campus!

Under the guidance of the Volunteer Engagement Manager, the Volunteer Engagement Supervisor is responsible for the experience, impact and safety of volunteers serving at all our San Diego Campus, and for cultivating lasting relationships that inspire staff and volunteers to work together towards our mission. This position will oversee all aspects of the volunteer experience including recruitment, training, daily work, communication and recognition, playing a key role in San Diego Humane Society’s capacity to care for tens of thousands of companion animals each year.

What you’ll do:
- Partner with fellow Volunteer Engagement leadership to oversee recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers at the San Diego campus build and manage a roster of active volunteers that are engaged in service to meet overall campus and shift goals.
- Complete daily volunteer engagement rounds of volunteer spaces and activities and perform ongoing risk assessment and make recommendations to ensure the safety of all volunteer activities.
- Manage volunteer activities, keeping database up to date and ensuring accuracy of all materials and resources. Proactively assess supply inventory to ensure volunteers have needed uniforms, equipment, and supplies to complete tasks.
- Utilize a variety of communication tools to inform and connect volunteers to the organization, write weekly email bulletin and host regularly scheduled volunteer team meetings. Provide individual appreciation and take the lead in relationship building and recognizing volunteer contributions using both formal and informal recognition methods; oversee volunteer award programming.
- Promote inclusion for volunteers of varying abilities, design modifications/accommodations to volunteer activities to create personalized service plans, communicate with job coaches and caregivers.
- Retain volunteers by providing an excellent volunteer experience that meets the needs of the volunteers through impactful service to the organization. Review volunteer applications and make placement decisions for volunteers seeking a promotional opportunity.
- Travel to other campus locations to provide support as needed; assist at special events and during local disaster situations.
What we’re looking for:
- Requires an associate’s degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Hospitality or related field, or completion of sufficient coursework to successfully perform the required duties of the position.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of related experience, with at least two (2) of those years spent working with volunteers, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) year supervisory experience (staff or volunteers) highly preferred.
- Experience working in an operational department of an animal shelter or other animal welfare organization (as staff or volunteer) highly preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.
Location & Hours: Based at our San Diego campus. This position works 40 hours per week and requires regular automobile travel during workdays.
Pay: Starting range is between $23.10 – $25.70 per hour.
The listed hiring range for this position depicts the target range of pay rates for candidates. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. Compensation for internal candidates may increase beyond the listed range based on performance over time. For all candidates, the actual starting pay rate is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to your years of related education and experience, internal pay equity, and position location.
