What you’ll do:

  • Under the general direction of the VP of Shelter Medicine & Chief Medical Officer (CMO), manages SDHS Community Cat Program, including development and operation of the focused TNR program, in accordance with policy and in strategically targeted areas. This program will involve overseeing an estimated 10,000 cats annually or more as it develops.
  • Supervise CCP Department staff. Provide guidance, coaching, mentoring, monitoring of performance, annual reviews, training and instruction, orientation and disciplinary actions as needed. Collaborates with the CMO to make hiring and termination decisions. 
  • Responds to escalated resident complaints. Works with individual residents to resolve community cat related conflicts and answer questions about community cats and the CCP. Ensures team members are trained in de-escalation techniques and can work with the public regarding community cat related questions and concerns.
  • Support all Shelter Medicine programs, including assisting guests onsite, following up on inquiries on the call back log and SDC Medical email, opening and approving appointments, end of day reconciliation reports, etc.
  • Assist with creating and updating CCP protocols, SOP’s and manuals, including for focused TNR program. Create CCP training materials to include training videos for staff and volunteers.
  • Recruits and coordinates volunteers and teams to trap free-roaming cats in target areas. Develop and maintain partnerships with program volunteers and new organizations regularly, including outreach, communication and relationship management.
  • Work with CMO to prepare annual budgets and control expenditures in accordance with budget allocations.

 

What we’re looking for:

  • Requires a bachelor’s Degree in related field with a minimum of four (4) years of paid, full-time, progressively responsible experience in animal welfare and working directly with the public, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year as a supervisor required, two years preferred.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • Formal community organizing training or experience preferred. Prior experience in a shelter, animal hospital or high-volume spay/neuter clinic environment preferred.
  • Must have experience trapping cats as part of a Trap-Neuter-Return program.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.
  • Must be able to work weekends.

 

Location & Hours: Supporting all campuses, but based at our San Diego Campus. This position works 40 hours per week and includes regular automobile travel within San Diego County and visits to off-site community locations.


Pay: Starting range is between $66,560 – $74,880 per year.

 

The listed hiring range for this position depicts the target range of pay rates for candidates. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. Compensation for internal candidates may increase beyond the listed range based on performance over time. For all candidates, the actual starting pay rate is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to your years of related education and experience, internal pay equity, and position location.
