Behavioral Health Technicians support the function and operations of Buena Vista Health and Recovery, operating as health care institutions and providing Inpatient (Detox), Residential, and Outpatient services.  The Behavioral Health Technician ensures the smooth and efficient administration of care while maintaining the quality and integrity of services we provide. This position works collaboratively with the treatment team, which may include but is not limited to nursing staff, case managers, clinical staff, and providers to provide care to patients.  In Inpatient (Detox) level of care, BHT works under the delegation of the nurse, and under the oversight of Clinical Staff. In Residential level of care, BHT works under the Clinical Staff. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assists in the admission of patients which includes orientation, vital signs completion, urine drug screening, rounding and observation, documentation, room searches, dietary responsibilities, and food handling/service.  Assist other clinical personnel with body searches and skin audits. 

  • Documents all patient care in the electronic medical record at time of providing care. 

  • Documents patients daily progress in an objective manner. 

  • Performs facility walk-throughs and evaluates care environment to establish a consistent presence and awareness of patient’s behavior. 

  • Interacts positively with patients, provides support, education, and de-escalation as needed. 

  • Assists with morning and bedtime routines, including daily hygiene. 

  • Encourages socially acceptable habits and behaviors (i.e. personal hygiene and grooming, table etiquette, etc.) 

  • Enforces policies and procedures, and completes Incident Reports per policy. 

  • Provides EVS support by completing patient laundry, room cleaning, facility cleanliness, and room turnovers. 

  • Supervises program activities and helps maintain patients schedule. 

  • Assists as needed in crisis intervention. 

  • Assist in running psycho-educational groups and updates group notes. 

  • Displays basic competency with computer technology and processes. 

  • Assists in patient’s step down or discharge process, including but not limited to satisfaction survey, escorting out of building, property return, and documentation. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required 

  • Must be 21 years of age or older 

  • Valid CPR, First Aid, and CPI certifications or the ability to obtain immediately upon hire 

  • Level one fingerprint clearance card prior to hire 

  • Food Handling Certificate  

 

If candidate self discloses in sobriety – Buena Vista requires 1 year of continuous sobriety. 

 

 

Educational Requirements 

  • High school diploma or GED Preferred 

Physical Requirements 

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.   

  • In a 12-hour work day: standing/walking up to 12 hours per day 

  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling 

  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching 

  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals 

  • Mental Focus: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
