Environmental Education and Communication Intern with Kiplin Hall Gardens
Kiplin Hall, located in North Yorkshire, England, was built in the 1620’s by George Calvert, founder of Maryland. The 400-year-old hall and gardens are open to the public to explore throughout the year. Washington College has a unique connection to Kiplin Hall and the curatorial staff have asked for a student intern to assist with the development of educational material to highlight some of the ecological features of the grounds. The intern will be provided with an interpretation plan for the center outlining the audience and key topics by the on-site curator.
The environmental education and communication intern’s responsibilities include:
- Research best practices for environmental communication and interpretive signage, specifically focusing on how similar spaces engage a wide range of audiences.
- Research the ecological features of the grounds and determine how best to communicate their value to the general public.
- Design educational materials and interactive activities to engage the public with these environmental features.
- Conduct regular check-ins through video conferencing with our partners at Kiplin Hall.
Please submit a cover letter and resume that describes your strengths, interests, and experiences. Please include how this internship aligns with your academic and career goals. The same letter can be used for all internships sponsored the Center for Environment and Society as long as it includes each internship that you are interested in and why.
