Stories of the Chesapeake Digitization Internship
The Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area was certified in 2005 and acts as a conduit through which large and small, public and private organizations connect. The Heritage Area includes four rural Maryland counties on Chesapeake Bay’s Eastern Shore. Scenic roads and waterways link 21 historic municipalities and many more agricultural and maritime villages. The area includes seven major rivers and more miles of shoreline than any comparable group of counties in the nation. In cooperation with local governments, land trusts, and other conservation organizations, the Heritage Area supports efforts to maintain the region’s special sense of place.
The Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area is seeking an intern to digitize and transcribe interviews of Eastern Shore watermen and other recorded oral histories relating to the Upper and Mid Shore.
Under the supervision of Madison Kaye, Washington College’s GIS & Cultural Resource Specialist, this position will spend 10 hours per week converting these recordings to digital (MP3/MP4) files, and then transcribing the interviews. The digital audio/video files, along with their transcriptions, will later be added to the Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area website to tell thematic stories of everyday people who live and work on the Shore.
Please submit a cover letter and resume that describes your strengths, interests, and experiences. The same letter can be used for all internships sponsored the Center for Environment and Society as long as it includes each internship that you are interested in and how it aligns with your academic interests and goals.
