Description

Museums of Kent is an organization that provides unity and collaboration between the historic, cultural, and lifestyle museums and buildings in Kent County, Maryland. With eight member museums, these museums provide opportunities for residents and visitors to discover the ways of the waterman, experience village farm life, watch history in flight, appreciate our cultural heritage, and view the natural history of our unique Eastern Shore community. Each member museum operates separately with their own operating hours.

Museums of Kent is seeking an intern to serve the organization and activities for individual member museums. The intern will focus on increasing visibility and accessibility for the museums in order to increase visitation in-person and online.

Activities:

  • Assess the current digital and interactive maps to identify and implement updates.
  • Assess the on-site promotion of digital resources and the other museums.
  • Enhance social media presence by creating and posting content for digital marketing channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, website) for Museums of Kent and for individual museums.
  • Create a toolkit for partners to maintain social media content.
  • Conduct in-depth interview of John Williamson, one of the founding members of Massey Aerodrome for the purpose of historical preservation.
  • Review and update the online story map for the Kent County Historical Society.
  • Assist Betterton Heritage Museum in either creating a new website or learning how to manage the existing site.
  • Explore the African American community's role in Betterton’s history.
  • Explore opportunities with Kent County Public Schools to showcase the museums in their history curriculum for all ages and service learning hours opportunities.
  • Photograph and catalogue Stirling Figures.

Please submit a cover letter and resume that describes your strengths, interests, and experiences. The same letter can be used for all internships housed within the Center for Environment and Society as long as it includes each internship that you are interested in and why.
