Description

Chestertown Environmental Committee is seeking an intern to serve the Committee across a variety of potential projects. A specific work plan will be developed based on the intern’s skills and interests. Intern will work approximately 10 hrs/week for 8-12 weeks. Chestertown Environmental Committee intern activities may include:

  • Create educational and communication products on a variety of topics including reusable bags, composting, stormwater management, and other topics.
  • Research best practices for municipality stormwater management, open space pollinator areas, and waste management.
  • Support the alternative recycling program at Saturday’s Farmer’s Market.
  • Enhance the Chestertown Environmental Committee’s social media presence by creating and posting content for digital marketing channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, website).
  • Participate in Chestertown Environmental Committee and Town Council meetings.
  • Create a map of the open space grass areas that the Town of Chestertown mows to identify opportunities to create ‘unmowed’ areas to support growth of native plants.
  • Research and prepare grants to support priorities of Committee.

Qualifications

  • Self-motivated.
  • Passionate about informal education, community engagement, sustainable waste management, stormwater management and/or other environmental issues.
  • Graphic design, ArcGIS Online, and/or social media skills preferred, but not required.
  • Driver’s license and ability to become an approved Washington College driver is preferred, but not required.
  • Intern will work at Semans-Griswold Environmental Hall, but there will also be occasional meetings in other locations in Chestertown or remote working.

Additional Info

  • Intern will be paid $15/hour with approximately 10 hours per week. Schedule is flexible based on student availability.
  • This internship is sponsored by the Center for Environment and Society and will have significant interaction and supervision from other members of the Chestertown Environmental Committee.
