The Center for Environment and Society is looking for two Washington College students to participate in the migratory bird banding operation at Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory (FBBO) located at the River and Field Campus. Students will learn mist netting and bird handling skills while also assisting with data recording. Through this internship, students will develop valuable field skills and gain real-world experience in field biology. This opportunity is relevant to any student passionate about biology, ecology, wildlife, the environment, birds in general, and beyond. Students get a glimpse at how cumulative data, citizen science, and collaboration with other organizations work to create a larger picture of avian population trends. Hours will be determined at a mutually agreeable time, but students should note that the banding station operates in the morning between the hours of 6am and 1pm. Start date is March 1st and end date is the last week of classes.

To apply, please use the “attach resume” button to upload ONE FILE that includes a COVER LETTER explaining your interest, your resume, the name of one faculty/staff reference from the college, and a copy of your course schedule. Part of our selection process is based on students’ availability during banding hours.

*Please note that cover letters should discuss not only your interest, but also how this internship is relevant to your career path, and how you may be a good fit for this position.
