The Center for Environment and Society is looking for a Washington College student to assist with bird-friendly glass research at the migratory bird banding operation at Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory (FBBO), located at the River and Field Campus. The student will be working with trained glass collisions staff, learning how to release birds into the glass-testing tunnel, record each flight on camera, and record data in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The student will be working at the glass-testing tunnel adjacent to the bird banding station where they may observe the bird banding operation and assist with data recording if time allows. Through this experience, the student will be directly involved in real-world applications of scientific methods while simultaneously gaining bird identification and handling skills. This opportunity is relevant to any student passionate about biology, the environment, conservation, human environmental impacts, birds in general, and beyond. Start date is the week of March 3rd (with some flexibility) and end date is the last week of classes. Position hours are from sunrise until they need to leave for their first class, two days a week. This is a paid position at $15/hr.
