Job Title: Dean of Student Life - Denver Christian Middle School
Location: Denver Christian School – Lakewood, CO
Position Type: Part-Time, FTE .5

Reports To: Middle School Principal

Salary Range: $26,104 - $52,296

 

Job Summary:

The Middle School Student Life Coordinator fosters a positive school climate that supports student growth and collaboration. This role involves managing student conduct with restorative practices, leading student leadership programs, and organizing off-campus activities and class trips. The coordinator also oversees small discipleship groups with the chaplain, develops teacher training on discipline, and maintains a student activities calendar. Proactive communication with parents, collaboration with school staff, and serving as a liaison between students, teachers, and administration are key aspects of the role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate a positive, supportive school climate that promotes student development and staff collaboration, integrating restorative practices to build trust and respect.
  • Maintain a visible presence among Middle School students, fostering an approachable and open leadership environment that encourages dialogue, creativity, and collaboration on student culture and climate.
  • Manage student behavior and discipline, applying restorative practices in alignment with school values, addressing daily disciplinary matters, and helping students understand their identity in Christ.
  • Work with the chaplain to lead and enhance Grow Groups, small discipleship groups that encourage spiritual growth and community among students.
  • Communicate proactively with parents regarding student behavior concerns.
  • Design and lead teacher training on discipline strategies, classroom management, and restorative practices to effectively manage conflicts and discipline issues.
  • Strengthen student leadership programs by creating opportunities for students to grow and display leadership within the school and community, such as SALT.
  • Plan and manage class trips and off-campus activities, collaborating with partners like Simply Venture and Camp IdRaHaJe, while effectively communicating their value to students, staff, and parents.
  • Coordinate with homeroom teachers and support staff for students with restricted attendance, working with counselors, nurses, and Extend Learning Services to ensure academic success.
  • Develop and update a Middle School Student Activities calendar, including events like tailgates, pop-up activities, and dodgeball nights, and collaborate with the Parent Association Liaison. Ensure clear communication between students, teachers, and administration regarding student life activities and policies.
  • Teach one section of an elective.
  • Serve as a member of the Middle School Teacher Advisory Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of teaching experience – Middle School level.
  • Leadership in a school community.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking or Moving Around:
    • Employees may need to walk to different areas of the office, attend meetings, or retrieve documents, but walking is typically minimal compared to other roles (e.g., retail or manufacturing).
  • Sitting for Extended Periods:
    • Most office roles require employees to sit for long periods, especially when working at a desk or computer. It’s important for workers to take regular breaks to avoid strain.
  • Light Lifting:
    •  Some office roles may require light physical tasks, such as lifting boxes of supplies, office materials, or packages (usually no more than 10–15 pounds).

 

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor Environment:
    • The work is generally performed in an office setting, often with controlled temperature, lighting, and ventilation.  
  • Regular Office Hours:
    • Office jobs typically follow standard working hours, often from 7:30 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. occasional evening or weekend work required for events or time-sensitive communications.
  • Technology Use:
    •  Work typically involves using computers, phones, and other office equipment, such as printers, scanners, or copiers.
