RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE COACH TOWARDS THE DEPARTMENT

  1. Meet with the AD. Complete preseason, weekly in season, and postseason meetings. 

  2. Implement off-season workouts that help improve the individual skill set of the student athlete. This needs to be ready to present at the postseason meeting with the AD.

  3. Watch practice/game film individually and with the team. Scout future opponents and develop game plans to help the team prepare for the upcoming competition…or comparable preparation for competition/events.

  4. Communicate effectively with administration, players, assistant coaches,  parents, boosters, and support staff (AT, Strength Coach, etc.). Ensure that all parties have the information that is needed in a timely manner to properly execute their duties.

    1. Parent & Student Remind (add ADs and support staff)

    2. Weekly email to parents, athletes (cc ADs and support staff)

  5. Meet with players individually before the season to define roles and expectations and after the season to gain perspective and receive feedback on the student experience of the past season. 

  6. Professional Coaching Development - Complete and have all HS assistant coaches complete CHSAA certification prior to the first practice of the season. Create other ways to continually develop yourself and your staff. This needs to be ready to present at the postseason meeting with the AD.

  7. Care for Program Equipment and Uniforms – Manage uniform distribution, collection, and keep an up to date inventory, ensure all sport specific equipment is maintained, and invest in the program by effectively using the budget that has been allocated to the program. 

  8. Set the expectation within the program of lifting weights in-season and out of season. Work with the Strength Coach to develop a plan to get athletes in the weight room year round. This needs to be ready to present at the preseason meeting with the AD.

  9. Implement Coaching for Transformation into the program. CFT will include multiple training sessions with the AD and planning time on the coaches part (service projects, etc…). 

  10. Lead and/or assist in the identification and hiring of Middle School and/or High School assistant coaches.

  11. Organize and run elementary and middle school developmental summer camps.

  12. Develop a 6-12 development program. Meet with MS coaches and share the development plan for the MS students. This should include but is not limited to: drills, skills, techniques, philosophies etc…that will directly translate to the high school program.

  13. Encourage Assistant Coaches and MS coaches to get involved in coaching at club levels. 

  14. Cast vision and assist in the implementation of an elementary program or system.

  15. Follow and implement other guidelines or rules outlined in the DC Athletic Handbook.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • BA degree in education or related field preferred.

  • Coaching experience at the high school level preferred.

  • Middle School and High School teaching positions are also available but must be applied for separately
