Denver Christian School is accepting applications for this anticipated opening. The start date for this position would be August 1, 2024 This is a full-time position following DC's school calendar.

Position Summary: The Para-Educator supports the designated inclusion student as well as the classroom.

Professional Expectations: In addition to the Employee Handbook and the Faculty Procedures Handbook, the Expectations of Para-Educators include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide students with integrated support as directed by Inclusion teacher, classroom teacher and/or Extend Coordinator.

  • Work individually or with small groups of students using a variety of techniques to help students with their daily work and/or life skills instruction. Being actively present in the classroom(s) to support the learning of designated students.

  • Assist non-inclusion students when needed in the classroom in conjunction with the classroom teacher.

  • Assist with implementing lesson plans for the inclusion student in consultation with inclusion/classroom teacher. Adjusting to the varying expectations and routines for each teacher.

  • Support effective classroom behavior management as directed by the classroom teacher.

  • Work with the Inclusion and classroom teacher to determine appropriate accommodations/modifications for student(s).

  • Ensure that the support provided helps the student become more independent and encourage academic growth.

  • Communicate with the classroom teacher regularly to ensure knowledge of the students individual learning plan and implementation of necessary accommodation/modifications.

  • Provide a daily written summary/log of the student's academic work in a particular class; informal observations noting student performance regarding the concepts being taught.

  • Facilitate daily communication with parents and the Inclusion teacher concerning the academic expectations and learning objectives for this student.

  • Duty coverage as needed.

  • Assist student(s) during specials (chapel, art, music, P.E., library) as needed; including recess/lunch if necessary.

  • Off-campus work with students promoting life skills if/as needed.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree - preferably in the area of education/counseling

  • Experience working with children - school setting, church school setting, etc.

  • Experience working with students with disabilities
