Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Athletic Trainer is responsible for evaluating patients, establishing treatment plans, and administering medically prescribed athletic training to restore function following disease, injury or disability. Location of work includes indoor and outdoor environments with variable work shifts. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

  1. Performs initial athletic training evaluations.
  2. Demonstrates clinical competence by independent use, precautions, and safety in various treatments.
  3. Demonstrates competence in various exercises and testing modalities.
  4. Demonstrates an ability to teach patients.
  5. Completes documentation in an appropriate manner.
  6. Assists in the day-to-day operations of the clinic: Scheduling patient appointments, rooming patients, taking vitals, test scheduling, insurance precertification, inputting orders, electronic medical documentation, daily correspondence with other departments, tracking patient referrals, ordering medical supplies.
  7. Working directly with the Physician, assisting with Physician-performed procedures.
  8. Provide nutrition and exercise education and counseling.
  9. Brace fitting.
  10. Provides athletic training services to contracted high schools on a PRN basis.
  11. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training required.
  • Licensure in the State of Ohio and West Virginia as an Athletic Trainer required.
  • BOC certification required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Maintain compliance in RQI.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Requires excellent interpersonal communication skills, excellent eye/hand coordination, manual dexterity, and basic numerical skills.
  • Must be capable of assisting with transfer lifting of patients.

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
