Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for managing and supervising activities in an assigned nursing area. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

  1. Maintains appropriate staffing levels for the unit.
  2. Performs nurse leader rounding.
  3. Coordinates orientation or new employees and education of all staff.
  4. Holds staff accountable for their behaviors through coaching and stepped discipline.
  5. Completes annual evaluations of employees in a timely fashion.
  6. Will promote and be accountable for professional nursing practice on their units.
  7. Will work closely and collaboratively with various nursing and non-nursing departments to meet organizational goals.
  8. Must be a transformational leader who exhibits professionalism, confidence, and inspires and motivates others to a higher level of professionalism.
  9. Works collaboratively with nursing quality to achieve high levels of nursing practice. 
  10. Participate in practice and quality councils to achieve sustained improvements.
  11. Role models participation in shared governance and mentoring emerging leaders, networking across the system and ensuring the involvement of frontline staff.
  12. Utilizes evidence based practice (EBP) when available and establishes standards for its use in all policies, procedures, guidelines and education.
  13. Able to organize and manage complex projects, uses lean process to facilitate project management.
  14. Demonstrates financial stewardship and innovation. 
  15. Participates in departmental goal development and goals setting that aligns with strategic nursing and organizational goals, working collaboratively with other departments partnering to ensure mutual success.
  16. Demonstrates leadership all aspects of professional nursing practice, improving systems and managing resources.
  17. Utilizes appropriate interpersonal communication which facilitates productive relationships with other team members.
  18. Promotes a positive patient experience.
  19. Seeks help from appropriate resources as needed.
  20. Maintains current knowledge of and practices within the scope of hospital policies.
  21. Clarifies any unclear communication between members of the healthcare team.
  22. Uses proper channels of authority in communicating information.
  23. Assumes responsibility for own behavior.
  24. Has the authority and responsibility to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, direct, or recommend such actions by using independent judgment.
  25. Completes and conducts employee performance evaluations based on direct observation of their employee’s job performance.
  26. Granted authority to perform the supervisory duties and are held accountable for performing such duties.
  27. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse.
  • ACLS and PALS within one year of being hired for position.
  • BLS certification required upon hire.
  • Maintains compliance in RQI required.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Verbal, clerical, numerical, and manual dexterity, color vision and near visual acuity, proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
