Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Payment Posting & Reconciliation Assistant is responsible for receiving and processing all payments made by a variety of methods daily. This employee is expected to accurately post payments and adjustments, ensure correct patient balances, resolve credit balances, and monitor trends, among other duties. The Payment Posting and Reconciliation Assistant’s activities support the overall financial health of the organization by ensuring payments are applied to outstanding balances in a timely manner and by identifying variances for further follow-up. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

  1. Ensure insurance payments are matched with the corresponding remittance advice.
  2. Obtain remits or additional payment information by utilizing websites or contacting insurance companies.
  3. Process patient or insurance payments in a timely manner.
  4. Accurately enter payments, contractual adjustments, and denials.
  5. Analyze and correct discrepancies to prevent credits and ensure the accuracy of the patient balance.
  6. Balance payment batch with the deposit amount before posting.
  7. Document complete payment detail on the deposit log and daily combined balance sheet.
  8. Follow up and document exceptions.
  9. Coordinate shared payments with accuracy and completeness.
  10. Cross-trains in other related functions to ensure smooth operation of the department.
  11. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Previous medical billing or posting experience and/or successful completion of a medical billing program preferred.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Strong data entry and technologic skills.
  • Proficient in examining documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to multitask and mange time effectively.
  • Ability to process payments in accordance to detailed instruction.

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
