Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Laboratory Operations Supervisor is responsible for providing 100% customer satisfaction and 100% quality by acting as a coach, facilitator, and/or mediator for techs working the bench by evaluating and reviewing all work in the lab section; maintaining quality control within the section to include evaluating equipment, procedures and section staff; and performing tests and operating instruments.  Exhibits the Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

  1. Performs the duties of a supervisor.
  2. Performs specimen testing (manual and automated) and operates various laboratory instruments.
  3. Obtains blood samples for analysis in the hospital and at off-site locations.
  4. Direct and train students and new lab employees in procedures and operation of instruments.
  5. Eliminates waste and manages flow within the department.
  6. Assumes duties of the Lab Manager in his/her absence.
  7. Has the authority and responsibility to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, direct, or recommend such actions by using independent judgment.
  8. Completes and conducts employee performance evaluations based on direct observation of their employee’s job performance.
  9. Granted authority to perform the supervisory duties and are held accountable for performing such duties.
  10. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with completion of Bachelor’s Degree in 3 years
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field preferred
  • One year supervisory experience preferred
  • ASCP certified or other national certification
  • When working at a West Virginia site, ASCP and/or National Board of Certification and a WV Medical Technologist and/or MLT license required.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Excellent verbal/written skills
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Organization and time management skills are also essential

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
