Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Capital Analyst plays a crucial role in the financial management of capital investments within a healthcare organization. This position is responsible for analyzing, budgeting, and forecasting capital expenditures, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic goals. The Capital Analyst reports to the Controller/Sr. Director of Finance and collaborates with various departments to evaluate capital projects, manage the capital budget, and provide financial insights to support decision-making. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

  1. Develop and maintain the capital budget in alignment with the organization's financial goals and strategic initiatives.
  2. Collaborate with department leaders to identify, prioritize, and evaluate capital projects.
  3. Assist in the preparation of capital expenditure requests, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  4. Inputs all fixed asset additions/disposals to Meditech Fixed Asset System.  Reconciles the fixed asset totals to general ledger for cost and accumulated depreciation.
  5. Conduct detailed financial analyses of capital projects, including return on investment (ROI), cost-benefit analysis, and impact on cash flow.
  6. Analyze historical data to forecast future capital needs and assess the financial feasibility of proposed projects.
  7. Monitor and report on capital spending versus budget, identifying variances and providing recommendations for corrective action.
  8. Tracks construction costs and works with the Director of Plant to explain fluctuations
  9. Track and manage the progress of approved capital projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  10. Coordinate with project managers, vendors, and contractors to ensure efficient use of capital resources.
  11. Prepare and present regular status reports on capital projects to senior management.
  12. Develops a system of approval for major and minor construction projects (i.e. plant operations, CEO, CFO, Capital Committee).
  13. Ensures that all capital expenditures comply with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  14. Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with capital investments and support internal and external audits related to capital expenditures.
  15. Prepares all reports for the Capital Committee and carries out tasks assigned in the monthly meetings.
  16. Work closely with finance, operations, and clinical departments to align capital investments with organizational goals while providing financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  17. Serve as a resource for departmental leaders on capital budgeting and financial planning matters.
  18. Identify opportunities to enhance the capital planning and budgeting process, leveraging technology and best practices while staying updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies that may impact capital investments in healthcare.
  19. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in financial analysis required.
  • Experience in hospital setting preferred.
  • Experience with capital budgeting and project management preferred.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., Excel, ERP systems).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with various stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with healthcare financial management, capital planning, and regulatory requirements.

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
