Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the EMS Communications Center Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching the incoming and outgoing EMS traffic for the health system and ensuring continuous flow of patient information from pre-hospital to treating departments. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

  1. Directs incoming inter-hospital transport and scene/EMS calls received to appropriate resource expeditiously.
  2. Obtains and accurately documents clinical information from referring physicians, hospitals, special care facilities, EMS agencies and communicates this to appropriate Emergency services personnel.
  3. Facilitates coordination/medical control of private ground and air transports units and scene/EMS calls.
  4. Documents designated communications/events in written logs and computerized databases.
  5. Assists in development of computer programs, report design, and monthly statistical reports.
  6. Activates trauma paging system for Level I and Level II trauma alerts.
  7. Assists in training of new staff and documents their progress per orientation guidelines.
  8. Ensures correct medical record and account number is placed on all EMS run sheets as turned into the facility.
  9. Demonstrates current knowledge and use of the Care-Point System to facilitate patient flow through the emergency department.
  10. Participates in quality initiative activities and special projects in the department and hospital.
  11. Must be able to work competently with minimal supervision and in a professional manner that promotes the efficiency and professionalism of the hospital.
  12. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Basic EMT Certification or Licensure in the State of Ohio as a Licensed Practical Nurse required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of respective experience required.
  • BLS required upon hire.
  • Experience in an Emergency Department or other clinical setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with personal computer and/or mainframe systems preferred.
  • Skill in using database and spreadsheet software preferred.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Analytical and organizational skills required to effectively respond to, track, and document activities related to patient transport, hospital security, and pre-hospital providers.

 

Compensation Details:  Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
