Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide diagnostic psychiatric evaluation and ongoing psychiatric medication management.
  • Consult with psychiatrists or other professionals when unusual or complex cases are encountered.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans per agency guidelines.
  • Distinguish between physiologically and psychologically based disorders and diagnose appropriately.
  • Prescribe appropriate medications. Will plan and institute a course of treatment demonstrating knowledge of drug action, interaction, and reactions.
  • Initiate requests for laboratory studies as needed. Identify normal and abnormal findings, interpret, and initiate medication alterations or follow-up treatment as indicated.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, or other treatment team members to coordinate care.
  • Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
  • Return calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours of receipt or sooner if clinically necessary)
  • Responsible for making independent decisions utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions.
  • Complete progress notes within 48 hours of service
  • Complete identified outcome measures as defined by the agency.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing focusing on Psychiatric Nursing.
  • Must be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • An unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Kansas.
  • Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Kansas.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, and time management skills
  • Have completed or will complete any required training within six months of employment.
  • Must have a current and valid Kansas driver’s license.
