JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for managing the Loan Review function of the bank, ensuring proper risk grades and requirements of the Current Expected Credit Losses model.  Also responsible for managing the credit analyst staff and providing credit analysis for the banks loan requests.  Analyze financial documentation and related information to insure informed credit decisions, and also support other administrative processes to assist in the identification of inherent risk in the bank’s loan portfolio.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise Credit Analysts, providing input in directing work, training, evaluations, interviewing, hiring, counseling, coaching, developing, accountability, and disciplinary actions.
  • Facilitate financial analysis process between staff and lenders for new and renewal loan requests, overseeing analysis software and setup.
  • Analyze financial documentation for loan requests, including financial statements, tax returns, profit and loss statements, and credit bureau reports; provide industry comparative information as needed to help assess and mitigate risk.
  • Provide ratio, trend, cash flow, and borrower profitability analysis as needed. 
  • Maintain credit memo standardization by developing consistency in the information presented for loan requests; provide borrower analysis/credit memos for Loan Officers and Loan Committees in a timely manner. 
  • Work closely with Lenders to insure informed credit decisions on loan proposals.
  • Ensure banking regulations, loan policies, and adequate underwriting standards are being followed on all credits analyzed. 
  • Responsible for adherence to Loan Review Policy, including loan review grading guidelines.
  • Perform ongoing portfolio reviews on specific segments of the loan portfolio to support risk management.
  • Facilitate external loan reviews as needed and assist with loan requests during regulatory exams, providing reports and loan documentation for reviewers and facilitating discussion with lenders.
  • Facilitate and manage problem loan recognition, both thru the analysis process, and thru lender identification, for potentially classified credits, and informing management as risks arise.
  • Maintain classified loan reports and identify classified action plans needed; facilitate report process with lenders.
  • Perform ongoing calculation of CECL analysis, including identification of impaired loans, historical loss ratios, and other qualitative adjustment factors.
  • Perform calculation of monthly Allowance for Credit Losses budget requirements and adherence.
  • Identify and manage information to prepare loan risk reports such as classified loan listing, credit concentrations, stress testing analysis, regulatory and policy loan exceptions, portfolio trends and economic forecasts.
  • Facilitate training for developing lenders as identified thru portfolio reviews.
  • Facilitate special projects which may include loan due diligence for an acquisition.
  • Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Must work independently and lead department with little management oversight.
  • Effectively work and cooperate with lenders, supervisors, co-workers, and auditors.
  • Follow the direction of supervisor, other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform other duties and projects as required by management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or related field
  • 7 to 10 years previous banking experience in a loan review or credit analysis related area

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong proficiency in PC applications including Windows XP, MS Word, MS Excel;  experience in Jack Henry bank software and Abrigo financial analysis is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting, credit analysis, financial analysis, lending practices, banking regulations, and Uniform Commercial Code.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of financial analysis including ratio, trend, and cash flow analysis
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial lending policy, procedures, and loan documentation requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of lending laws and regulations
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to critically review work for errors and incorrect conclusions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong team building and interpersonal skills: able to work well with a wide range of people
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This work is sedentary and requires the following physical activities:

  • Sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; finger dexterity; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity
  • Frequent lifting (up to 10 pounds of paper supplies or minor office equipment).
  • Possible driving to various banking centers, client locations, seminar locations, and other sites as needed
