The Ember Campus Cook is responsible for assisting in creating, preparing, and cooking nutritional meals serviced at Ember Campus with the oversight of the Ember Nutrition Services Manager. This position must comply with nutrition and sanitation requirements while meeting food safety and licensure standards. This position is responsible for assisting in the collaboration, coordination, and documentation of food donations. While this position does not provide direct care to youth on campus, this professional will have regular contact with youth and is responsible for maintaining an atmosphere of safety and respect for youth served
 
  • Ensures that food is prepared and served in a sanitary and safe environment
  • Integrates safety regulations into all phases of the school foodservice operation
  • Adheres to budget expectations Ensures the food production system provides safe nutritious food of high quality
  • Adheres to procedures for efficient and effective food production and distribution
  • Assists with developing and maintaining campus gardens and/or potential greenhouses
  • Assists in developing cost-effective menus that maintain nutrition integrity and meet all local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations
  • Adheres to procedures and policies regarding risk management
  • Assists in record keeping required for food safety, licensure, and the Child Nutritional Program (CNP)

Required Qualifications
  • 1 year of experience to include:
    • food preparation and storage
    • operation and maintenance of equipment
    • record keeping
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Food Safety Certification
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in related field or appropriate certification.
  • Has lived experience they can draw on to support others on the journey to stability, recovery, and healing.

YSS’s Hiring Process

2. Assessment – Applications are reviewed for qualifications and completeness.
 
3. Interview – Initial phone interviews or direct in-person/virtual interviews.
 
4. References – Submit names, titles, emails, and phone numbers for three or more references.
 
5. Pre-employment Screening – Applicants must submit background check waiver forms when they apply.
  • YSS conducts a Single Contact Repository (SING) background check on final candidates. This reviews Iowa Criminal History, the Sex Offender Registry, and the Abuse Registry for Child Abuse and Dependent Adult Abuse
  • YSS requires a clean driving record for roles transporting clients. Verification is done in the issue state of the individual’s current license.
  • If applicable, Professional License information is verified through the issuing agency.
6. Offer – Selected applicants will receive a formal offer of employment in the Paycom system.
 
7. New Hire Meeting - The offer email provides details. You must have this meeting before you can begin work.
