Program Summary:
The Peer Specialist Shift Lead will join a team of clinicians, EMTs, and rehabilitation specialists in San Jose and Gilroy. Multiples shifts available (7am-3:30pm, 3pm-11:30am, 11pm-7:30am). They will provide support and linkage to those individuals accessing mobile crisis support due to experiencing a mental health crisis in the community. Because our callers will come from different backgrounds, the Peer Specialist Shift Lead position is for someone who has lived experience navigating the homelessness systems and/or the various mental health, behavioral health, and criminal justice systems. The Peer Specialist Lead must be comfortable sharing their experience with others and be able to balance their own recovery with helping others on their journey. The Peer Specialist Lead will receive close supervision in best practices and techniques. Peer Specialist Shift Leads will be stationed at our call center in San Jose, providing support and triage over the phone. They will also be stationed in our outreach vans in San Jose and Gilroy, providing direct support to clients in the community.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Direct Client Service (90%)
- Works collaboratively with Program Manager to ensure service delivery standards are met
- Responsible for the care, basic safety, security and supervision of program participants and staff
- Assist with administrative duties to support the Program Manager, including preparing reports, and securing coverage
- Assist with interviewing, recruiting, and onboarding staff
- Ensure the minimum staffing requirements per shift are met
- Ensure all services are documented into Salesforce within 1 business by staff
- Provide supervision, job coaching, training, and support to staff
- Conduct daily Team Huddle via zoom/or in person at the start of shift
- Make timely and appropriate decisions in emergency situations, including awareness of the need for safety of all participants involved, mandated reporting, and contacting appropriate staff/responding agencies
- Respond to crises using de-escalation and Mental Health First Aid techniques as applicable
- Adhere to HomeFirst’s service delivery practices, including Trauma Informed Care, client- centered practice, and Crisis Prevention Intervention model
- Maintain professional conduct, attitude, and appearance
- Communicate to and delegate tasks to next shift lead
- Maintain confidentiality regarding clients, personnel, and other internal agency affairs
- Conduct business according with employee handbook, exercising judgement and serving the best interests of the agency and community
- Maintain compliance with agency site policies and procedures
- Provide socialization skills- empathetic listening, problem solving, information and referral, mediation, crisis intervention
- Committed to treat each program participant and staff with respect and dignity
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
General (10%)
- Represent HomeFirst and the program appropriately to volunteers, donors, outside agencies and the public
- Assist with office-related tasks as needed
- Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and trainings
- Perform other general duties as assigned

Skills, Abilities, and knowledge:
- Highly skilled in Inovalon and Salesforce which includes updating scheduling and hours, pulling dispatch reports, updating service crews and service areas, logging in client enrollment information and auditing their Team’s PIRP service notes on a weekly basis.
- Ability to work with people of diverse social backgrounds, strong interpersonal skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, email, and the internet, and able to learn data entry using web-based database systems
- High level of flexibility and ability to prioritize appropriately
- Work effectively within a team
- Strong sense of accountability
- Lived experience in either Homelessness, Substance use and/or Mental Health First Aid
- Ability to multitask efficiently
- Knowledge of local social service resources/providers
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to complete tasks
- Reliable; excellent punctuality and attendance for scheduled work shifts
- Ability to work flexible hours, especially nights, weekends, and overnights. Must be available by telephone, on-call, and as needed during employee’s scheduled availability
- Able to take the initiative and work independently and productively with minimal supervision
- Ability to meet deadlines and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner
- Ability to maintain professional conduct, attitude, and appearance at all times
- Must be able to work under pressure, handle stressful situations, and maintain flexibility
