Job Title:              CMM Operator / Quality Inspector

Department:       Quality Assurance (QA/RA)

Status:                  Non-Exempt

Reports to:           Director of Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs          

Hours:                   Full Time, 6:00-2:30 M-F, overtime as required

Job Summary:

The CMM Operator / Quality Inspector position is responsible for performing the activities required to ensure materials are inspected to meet published specifications, customer expectations, and/or regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily Quality Control (QC) inspection including, but not limited to the use of manual inspection tools, surface plate, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, pin gages, Optical Comparators and CMM to inspect parts for all physical characteristics. (e.g. feature location, size, and position as well as surface finish, concentricity, runout and perpendicularity)
  • Perform incoming and first article inspections of parts as required including both dimensional and visual inspection criteria.
  • Create and maintain inspection documentation files to include component inspection reports, CMM dimensional reports, part set-up files, and required vendor paperwork.
  • Verify vendor supplied part documentation for accuracy, correct revisions, and compliance to drawing requirements. 
  • Assist with the Periodic Maintenance of the CMM as required per procedure.
  • Adherence to ISO, FDA, and OSHA requirements and regulations.
  • Unboxing and/or toting of components as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Operation of a DCC (Direct Computer Controlled) CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) Brown and Sharpe using PC-DMIS Software using IGES Models.
  • Ability to interpret complex component drawings with a strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience using Windows Based software such as MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Use required computers and testing fixtures for applicable testing.
  • Proficient in the use of manual inspection tools including Digital height stands, Micrometers, dial indicators and Optical Comparator to inspect mechanical parts for all physical characteristics to Including but not limited to feature size and locations, concentricity, run out, and perpendicularity.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Optional Skills:  

  • Experienced working in an ISO certified environment.
  • ASQ Certification
  • Previous experience developing SPC sampling plans

Education and/or Experience:      

  • High School Graduate
  • Journeyman Inspector status or minimum 5 continuous years experience in an inspection position.
  • Basic training in PC-DMIS/CMM Operation
