Summary of Position:

This position will administer and maintain company safety programs while ensuring compliance with OSHA, Cal OSHA, Federal, State, and local regulations. Responsible for planning and facilitating employee safety training with the goal of maintaining and growing Barkley Ag Enterprises, LLC safety culture. Will work closely with Supervisors, Managers, HR, and Employees. The Safety/HR Intern reports to the Safety & Compliance Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Barkley Safety Program and company practices comply with federal, state, and local ordinances/standards and are enforced throughout the day.
  • Assists with OSHA mandatory recordkeeping duties including 300A forms and reporting.
  • Schedules monthly safety tailgates to ensure items are addressed within each site, some of which may require scheduling at different times of the day.
  • Conducts safety orientations and other trainings at multiple business units.  Collects, files, and follows up with supervisors/crew leads to ensure tailgate completion.
  • Reviews Incident reports to ensure completeness and that appropriate action is taken to prevent recurrence. Ensures all injuries are properly reported and reviews/follows up with injured employee.
  • Performs incident investigations for all incidents and communicates to the appropriate personnel any hazards, incidents, corrective actions, etc.
  • Accompanies injured workers to occupational clinics for injury incident management when needed.
  • Ensures DOT/FMCSA driving records and other documentation is collected in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for record updates per mandated regulations.
  • Collects IFTA required information for quarterly reporting and data entry into company records.
  • Interacts with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, local inspectors, client auditors, etc
  • Recordkeeping for multiple facilities and their compliance records.
  • Accountable for monthly site walk-through records, eyewash, first aid, and fire extinguisher inspections.
  • Primary for preparation and gathering audit documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Promote a culture of safety through ongoing communication, education and reinforce safety practices.
  • Monitor industry trends and OSHA updates to ensure company policies are up to date.
  • Heavy travel to non-home state during seasonal move

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years safety experience.
  • Must be bi-lingual: English/Spanish
  • Solid Understanding of specific safety standards and government regulations for OSHA and Cal OSHA
  • Ability to present training material and knowledge
  • Must have valid State Driver License
  • Excellent communication skills and detail oriented

Education/Certification/License/Formal Training:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental, Health, Ag, or other related field a plus.
