Description

Under the direction of the ECI Program Director, the Physical Therapist has the necessary authority to plan and provide services to eligible individuals of the ECI Program and travel within a 10-county area.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

The provision of services within a ten-county area for children:

a. With severe motor delays with atypical or scattered skills or atypical tone.

b. With severe global delays with motor being the greatest concern.

c. Who are receiving developmental services but also have a demonstrated need for physical therapy services.

The provision of services to address the promotion of sensorimotor function through enhancement of musculoskeletal status, neurobehavioral organization, perceptual and motor development, cardiopulmonary status, and effective environmental adaptation. These services include:

  1. Identification, assessment, intervention, and consultation.
  2. Adaptation of the environment, and selection, design, and fabrication of assistive and orthotic devices to facilitate development and promote the acquisition of functional skills; and
  3. Prevention, alleviation, minimization or compensation for movement dysfunction, developmental delay, or related functional problems.

The Physical Therapist must be able to lift, hold and play with young children and move in and out of sitting positions on the floor, as well as sit at a desk. Must also be able to operate a motor vehicle.

 

The job requires extensive travel for service delivery and flexible hours and schedule. HFC incorporates principles of trauma-informed care, which includes cultural sensitivity, in all areas of service delivery. All job descriptions include the responsibility to learn about and implement trauma-informed practices within the scope of work for the position.

Reassignment is a condition of employment that may occur at the employers discretion. Work location and hours could change based on program needs.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience

Must possess a graduate degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy. Must maintain current licensure by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

Must maintain a valid and current drivers license and be insurable under Center insurance. Must pass and maintain all Center mandated trainings and complete all required initial ECI training before working directly with children and families.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have strong communication skills (speaking, listening, exchange of ideas, problem solving, etc.) to understand and be understood in order to perform the following duties with favorable effect in person, in writing, and via telephone for clients, staff, and community.
  • Must have strong organizational capabilities in order to ensure the efficient and timely processing of a consumer through the early intervention system of services.
  • Must have the capacity to build rapport with consumers in order to assist in accessing community resources.
  • Must be literate and possess basic math skills,
  • Must be skilled in the use of personal and network computers, word processing, database, spreadsheet, and office management software (Microsoft)
  • Must have visual acuity of 20/20, depth perception, and have strong fine motor skills
