ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This position reports to the Field Network Manager.
This position is being sourced for Midstream Integrity Services (MIS).Â
POSITION SUMMARY
The Field Network Technician is responsible for network development and maintenance in the field. The Field Network Technician maintains the company's network systems, troubleshoots network systems when necessary and makes improvements to the network. Works with the organizations team and its clients to install, configure, maintain, and fix all LAN/WAN and other equipment issues, ensuring efficient network functionality.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with the operations, automation, security, and information technology groups to understand the communication needs of the field assets.
- Provide construction, operation & maintenance of communication lines, wireless data, fiber optic data lines, wireless tower lines and wireless services.
- Responsible for installation and maintenance of network equipment and configuration of various devices.
- Working knowledge of Open-Source Interconnection (OSI) model to Layer 3 (Networking).
- Interpret network drawings and schematics and implements design parameters as specified.
- Install and troubleshoot fiber, voice, and data circuits utilizing appropriate test equipment.
- Demonstrate exceptional communications, customer service skills, technical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively operate tools necessary to perform job duties efficiently and safely.
- Work independently in remote locations with weather extremes found in West Texas locations.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot emergency power systems to include hut level battery plants, solar-battery setups, and back-up generators.
- Terminate, splice, and test fiber optic cables utilizing appropriate equipment.
- Perform site surveys for upgrades and new installations of fiber optic / wireless services.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain licensed and unlicensed/licensed IP and RF based radio
- Systems.
- Monitor network for equipment alarms and adverse trends to proactively prevent network outages.
- Perform all duties in accordance with all applicable OSHA and FCC safety guidelines.
- Identify potential safety hazards and report to supervisor as appropriate.
- Use extensive knowledge of DC current electronics with a basic knowledge of AC current electrical systems.
- Knowledge of ANSI/TIA-568 cabling standards.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years of related industry experience.
- Associate's or Technical degree in Electronics, or Computer Science.
- Experience with OTDRs and OPMs in finding fiber optic faults.
- Experience using Microsoft Office application Suite.
- Preferred certifications in fiber and applicable industry hardware and software applications.
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Ability to safely use ladders, aerial lifts, and other associated telecommunications construction equipment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Windows based personal computer equipment, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Individual must demonstrate a positive attitude in a rapidly changing industry.
- Ability to work a schedule based on regular weekly hours with added callout events as well.
PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, climb stairs and ladders, push, pull, reach, grasp and grip, use finger dexterity, write, drive, or operate equipment daily.
- Must be able to lift/carry up to 60 pounds.
- Must be able to work outdoors and be exposed to extreme temperatures.
- Must be able to travel to various job sites.
