SUMMARY
The Senior Engineer I prepares or oversees and manages production of basic to intermediate to complex levels of design of MEP systems and prepares production of intermediate to complex levels of design for schematic, construction, permitting plans and specifications. Has the skills and experience to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of a Project Engineer II.
Prepares or Assists in managing:
Mechanical Flow diagrams, Heat Load Calculations, Static pressure calculations, equipment sizing, ductwork sizing.
Electrical Basic One Line Risers, Fire alarm devices, lighting and controls, power and feeders
Plumbing Fixture selection, pipe sizing and routing (sanitary, storm, gas, domestic), venting requirements, and service sizing.
Fire Protection Risers and sprinkler head locations.
Project specifications and project manual and bid documents.
Assists in:
Client and agency relations.
Coordination and scheduling with other disciplines and coordinating work flow for project.
Meeting deadlines.
Assists in managing internal project budget control:
Change orders with Project Manager.
Assists in collection of payment from client when required.
Performs or Assists in:
Permitting and hearing presentations
Reviews for quality, products produced by CADD Designers, Staff and Project Engineers.
Understanding of project scope and internal budget and contract with client.
Preparation and coordination of revisions and responses to review agencies.
Construction Administration duties, including job meetings, submittal reviews, change orders, RFIs, bulletins, requisition reviews, project closeout, punch lists, etc.
Full understanding of electrical, plumbing, fire protection or mechanical, local, state or federal agency requirements and client requirements along with acceptable engineering standards and practices and understanding of company liability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The preparation of, or oversight and management of, basic to intermediate to complex levels of design. As well as the preparation of intermediate and complex levels of design for detailed drawings of MEP system and utilities, plans, cross sections and profiles, detail sheets, general notes, plan notations and titles, dimensioning etc.
Communication throughout project duration to members of project design team and supervisors.
Preparation or oversight of:
Concept plans, preliminary plans, design development level plans, permitting drawings used for local, state and federal agency submissions, quantity estimates, cost estimates, due diligence reports, responses to review comments by outside agencies. Preparation or oversight of contract drawings for small to intermediate size projects.
Understanding of:
The location specific building code requirements (discipline specific), client standards, design requirements and limitations, permit approval process, related report recommendations, bidding process and client requirements, coordinated project documents, Construction Administration and the construction process.
Understanding or preparation of:
Project specifications.
Coordination with utility companies and public agencies.
Respecting a budget internally to the project scope.
Agency relations.
Coordination and scheduling with other disciplines (internal and external) in conjunction with Project Manager.
Bid documents, bidding process and contract award process.
Identify change orders and coordination with Project Manager for internal contract with client.
Identify work beyond contract scope to Project Manager (internal).
Assists in the review of pre-bills.
Review quality of product produced by direct reports or peers.
Office Project File insertions.
Relationships and meetings with clients and agencies.
Assistance with public hearings.
Ability to relate to staff and colleagues.
Job meeting attendance.
Shop drawing review.
Requisition review.
Construction assistance matters.
Use of company file management practices and standards.
Speed of task preparation and progression to more complex tasks and mastery of these duties and responsibilities should increase with experience level at this position along with management and client relationship skills.
Communication skills and knowledge of when documentation and record keeping is required and necessary and performing same in a timely manner.
Occasional travel to other company offices or project sites to fulfill workload demands can be expected.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may be responsible to carry out supervisory responsibilities for a team of direct reports in the discipline. Such supervisory responsibilities shall be performed in accordance with the Companys policies and applicable laws and may include interviewing, hiring and training employees; development planning and discussion of career path; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; assessing potential; rewarding performance and addressing performance issues; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required. Minimum of eight years of experience in Building Systems Engineering, Construction, or related field.
Understanding of, or proficiency in use of Current BL platforms of Auto CAD or REVIT, Word, Excel and one or more MEP software packages (Visual, Trane700, etc.).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical reports, project documents for bid and construction, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, ordinances, application forms, technical plans and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals and project documents for bid and construction. Ability to effectively communicate, correspond and present information and respond to questions or correspondence from groups, and from managers, clients, customers, the general public, public agencies and commissions and outside technical personnel, internal staff and supervisors. Clear and concise writing and communication skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, coordinate geometry, plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as engineering calculations, algebra, geometry, percentages, interpolation, area, circumferences and volumes.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Professional Engineer license required. NCEES for license comity desired.
