Description

The Arc Central Chesapeake Region (The Arc) supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to live the lives they choose. Everyone has unique needs, so at The Arc, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to our supports.

As a Health Access Assistant, you’ll promote independence, self-advocacy, and decision-making in medical and health related activities for people with I/DD. The Health Access Assistant will transport people to medical appointments and support them in taking control of their healthcare. Health Access Assistants are deeply committed to supporting people and their wellness goals while building a trusting relationship that promotes independence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will be able to provide a person-centered level of care to align with the person’s Person-Centered Plan. The Health Access Assistant will assist in coordinating appropriate medical related appointments, providing medical services, and assisting with personal care and emotional support. They will facilitate building self-esteem and confidence through positive interactions and communication with the person supported and their family. The Health Access Assistant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and experience facilitating medical appointments and supporting people with disabilities.
