Remote Adjunct Instructor  

The Art of Education University (AOEU) is seeking qualified online adjunct instructors to join our team. A terminal degree (PhD, EdD, or MFA) is preferred, though candidates with a master’s degree will be considered if they possess unique specializations aligned with the university’s needs.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas: Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Therapeutic Practices in Art Education, Neuropedagogy and Learning, Literacy, Textiles, Book Arts, and Ceramics-Wheel Throwing.

As a remote adjunct instructor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering an exceptional learning experience to our students, who are primarily professional K-12 art educators. This position involves delivering high-quality, inspiring instruction, facilitating engaging discussions, and providing fair and thorough assessment and evaluation of student work.

POSITION DETAILS

Structured as a remote part-time exempt position. This position will report to the Chair of Faculty Development and Dean of Graduate Studies.

We have been a 100% remote company since the beginning!  This position is eligible to remote work from the following locations: USA.

The Details 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Training

  • Audit one course utilizing our online LMS for training purposes.
  • Instruct one course using the same LMS to learn the course structure and format.

Instructional Duties

  • Instruct courses as assigned throughout the year on a mutually agreed-upon basis.
  • Commit to the time requirements needed for comprehensive course instruction. Actual time will vary based on workload.
  • Attend required faculty meetings
  • Complete Annual Checkpoint

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of art education principles and practices.
  • Proficient in online learning platforms and various educational technologies.
  • Demonstrates confidence, enthusiasm, and subject-matter expertise.
  • Effectively engages with adult learners at diverse career stages while fostering professional growth.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong commitment to professionalism.
  • Highly organized, with excellent collaboration and teamwork abilities.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to perform independently in a remote work setting.

Position Requirements

While we have identified specific requirements for this role, we acknowledge that not all candidates may possess every requirement listed. EXPERIENCE

  • Five or more years of k-12 teaching experience in the field of art education
  • Experience teaching and working with adult learners is strongly preferred
  • Experience in higher education preferred but not required
  • Experience in distance education preferred but not required

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • An earned master’s degree with experience in the field of art education is required.
  • An earned PhD, EdD, or MFA with experience in the field of art education is preferred. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods of time. The Art of Education University is an online university therefore 95-98% of one’s time will be on or using technology.
  • Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy.
  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is commensurate with experience and market. We encourage you to discuss your compensation requirements early in the process. 

The Process

For most roles, the process is as follows: 

  • Step 1: ~15-minute phone interview with the hiring manager
  • Step 2: Round 2 packet & Interview
    • Given that AOEU is 100% remote, this step is intended to see how you might work through some of the daily tasks, responsibilities, and challenges that could arise in this role. You will be given a prompt and be asked to complete an assignment which will then be used to guide a ~1 hour follow-up Zoom interview with 1-2 stakeholders. The intention is for you to get a sense of the role and give us an opportunity to see your skills in action. Your answers will not be used for any other purposes beyond evaluating your candidacy.
  • Step 3: Follow-up interview
    • For certain managerial or high-collaboration roles, you may be asked to participate in an additional Zoom interview.
